Does anyone know if you can fit another motherboard in these computers? Also will it own power supply work with the new MB.

  2. I had a friend who wanted to fit a new motherboard to his Dell (wasn't an XPS though) but the mountings and case weren't standard ATX so it wouldn't fit. Not sure on the power connection, either.

They've also rekeyed the power connector( on many older models). You will likely fry any new motherboard you try to install. They also use underrated power supplies.

They use the smallest PSU they can get away with which is awful, but when your systems are covered under warranty you can get away with stuff like that.

The Dell cases I have seen are awful. They don't dissipate heat hardly at all and their thermal management doesn't help. They also collect dust like you wouldn't believe.

There are lots of great cases out there to be had for not all that much money. I recommend spending at least $100 on a good aluminum case with quiet 120mm fans. Are you putting an upgraded system in one of those boxes to be ironic?

    Do you have a Dell?

Say you have a year old MB, in some cases you can get a new Dell MD and fit it right in. I did this for my boss's home computer last year. He had a dell deminsions 4300 and I put in a MB from a 8300. I also changed his power supply. At the time I could only find one company that sold replacement power supplies for a Dell, but I'm sure there are more now. It's true, don't use a standard power supply with a Dell and don't use a standard MB with a Dell.....If you really want all the facts go to the Dell forums, that's where I went to get the info when I upgrade his...(just before X-mas last year)
