I think Clint Eastwood is a much better actor.

Considering the fact that Eastwood is still alive, who can contest that?"Whenever I need to "get away,'' I just get away in my mind. That he was rebellious is what gave him distinction...and made him more of a real person. The system made a lot more money using him for commercial gain than he ever made from them.
Is it really so bad that he wasn't kissing Valenti and co. 's butts
His best work was made outside the Hollywood system anyway.
He was someone who told it like it was - I recall an interview he did where he was knocking Burt Reynolds and saying how people like that make him want to puke. The system does suck - and that's what most of us say in the forums here each day.
Anyway, I wouldn't say he was one of my favorite actors of even the best actor there ever was, but he definitely was a groundbreaker for a style of acting that most actors nowadays try to imitate or outdo.
Like him or not - he is a legend.
Clint Eastwood has a likeable deliverance/presence/personality/box office draw...but he's not much of a character actor - he basically plays the same character in almost every movie he's in.
Many of the most gifted actors don't get the credit they deserve - the studio system is plagued by politics.
We'd have much better movies today if it weren't for the power, greed and mind control of the much controlled system. -
It's sad when anybody dies, but I never cared for Brandos movies.
-
I think of two things when I hear Brando's name - The Godfather and some YOUNG guy yelling "Stella"....other than that his movies are un-impressive to me as well.

Amazing. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but do any of you nay sayers realize this thread was started to pay respect for Marlon Brando? I am sure he was probably not the most popular actor of everyone who posted here, but when things like this happen, you are supposed to say nice things or nothing at all. If it sounds kind of lame, forgive me, it's just in my generation it's called simple human decency.

The advantage of the art world though is that you can live on through your work.
All people have their good and bad points - we're all human and no one is perfect, but some are remembered for things they've achieved or by inspiring others.

The movie was usually distributed with the scene edited until restored for DVD.
It was a very daring film...and in today's politically correct world, unlikely for a film like that to ever be produced on this side of the pond.
Don't be quick to dismiss it as softcore porn - it's a sad and tragic story
with great character depth.
A Streetcar Named Desire may be tame by today's standards, but the rape scene was taboo for it's day and remained censored until more recent years.
I got more into this movie after I'd seen the remake with Alec Baldwin and Jessica Lange (who stole the movie with her intense performance of Blanche DuBois, victim who descends into madness.
It was a play before it hit the screen.
Rent Candy and I bet you won't even recognize Brando.
His films aren't really alike, so you can't really say you don't like his movies unless you've seen them all....but try to avoid anything from
Superman on up, as those don't offer much as far as his acting abilities go...and were done so the studios could profit from his name being on the credits...his screen time is minimal in most of 'em.
