Wondering if you locals can give me info on crime rates in the past 5 years for your countries, in particular violent crime and violent crime involving guns. I don't trust information I receive here in the States, it often turns out to be a little biased. A link to an official country website with these stats would be the best!

interestingly, it says 80 gun fatalities a year. not bad considering there's 60 million of us!Wonder how the US stats compare?

The Australian crime rates are a JOKE compared to the U.S. - I was there for 3 weeks in 2000....watching the news each morning was very amusing to say the least. What the Aussies report as a "serious crime" in Melbourne, Adelaide and even Sydney wouldn't even make the news in most larger American cities.
I really have to laugh every time I take a trip to Berlin (Germany) too. A co-worker of my wife always feels the need to warn me about the skinheads in Berlin. Those guys are Mother Theresa compared to most of the "criminal element" in America.

compare and contrast:
phoenix - car is stolen, driven to mexico, sold on the balck market to feed a mexican family for a week.
England - car is stolen by a little 14 year old prick who can barely see over the wheel. his father is in the pub and his mother is watching corrie. they ignore their childrens behaviour as "just being kids." The little fuckwad picks up all his mates, they rob an offlicence (for cider) and get wasted. on the way home the shit-basket mounts the kerb doing 60 and mows down three innocent pedestrains. the ****-biscuits dump the car and leave the victims to die. the next day they boast in school but the teachers and police are powerless to do anything because the aformentioned wank-stains are under 18 and the parents don't give a shit.
which sounds worse to you?

Flan,
Am I to interpret your tone in a way that would indicate you don't view these children as misunderstood by society, that they're just acting out, and that they're victims of their own environment - to be helped, not punished? Hmmmm???
"**** Biscuits"?

In Australia when a car is stolen it'll generally be either of these two scenarios:
1) Punk kids stealing it to go joyriding in it. Luckily this contingent of car thieves are stupid and can only break into shitbox cars and are put off by things like alarms.
2) Professional car thieves break into you car. Sometimes they are stealing you car specifically or they will target an in demand model and will rebirth it before selling it in another state.

For statistics relating to Australia and crime check out the Australian Bureau of Statistics website (www.abs.gov.au) or the Australian Institute of Criminology's website (www.aic.gov.au). They are the two bodies that will have the most up to date and reliable figures on crime in Australia.
I did a quick search there for "violent crime" and didn't find anything useful but you might have more luck.
Out of curiousity, what are you doing this for?

Pacman told me, at the other site, that 2003 data were not included at the site I directed him to. It appears it IS included, now, as of a few days ago.
If you go to AIC site, it does not look good for a near totally disarmed populace.
What outworlders fail to read into the US stats is who is killing whom.
We, of course, have the "gang bangers", the scum of the earth, who are shooting each other in turf wars. I sell all the dope on this block. And, these are NOT the "children" that the Clintons, Sarah Bradeys, Joe, or Josh, Sugarmans, refer to. They tell you children as though it was 5 year olds. "Children", to them, is up to 19, and we know that is the time they are feeling their oats, figure they own the dope rights to an area.
The US has an overall higher death by gun count, but, again, the "counters", with an agenda, do not break it down.
Justifiable? In most states, home owner no longer has to retreat to the last inch of his property before he may defend himself, even unto deadly force, as was the law some years ago. And still the law in England, as the Martin case should show. The cops don't come, you take the matter into your own hands.
Nor does our statistical group usually break it down into "Shot by Homeowner", or "Victimized" person, and "Shot by Cop"
Remakably, the law abiding CCW people, here, many times more than the number of Police, shoot far fewer people by mistake. Police, I think I have read, shoot 800 people by "mistake" per year, keep their badge, and, as in the case of several cops in my own geographical area,m not only not been dismissed and charged with a crime, but have been promoted in the Police ranks.
In some of the charts on the site Pacman told you to try, the death rate is trending down, suicidewise, by gun, but they're still rising as to the total number of suicides.
You have really posted in the wrong site if you really wish to examine this thoroughly.
I expect this thread to be locked, soon, as this is a taboo subject, here, verges on "Politics".
Search "Homicide Australia" or "Homicide England". You will get thousands of hits, take your time and read the best of them. You may decide the pols are not your best friend.

The punishment have to fit the crime, thats for sure. But there is no excuse that 'society' is to be blamed for it. Don't forget those teen fuckwads in UK, US, Australia etc etc - they are living in *best* countries out there (you know better one - let me know). If the 'society' is to be blamed for their actions, then teenagers in countries like Zimbabwe, Paraguay, Honduras and some 75% of the teenagers in rest of the world - what they should say? By this(another politically correct PoS) idiotic way of thinking those third world teens should be some kind of walking killing machines like fu*king terminators!

What you still fail to grasp as well is the notion that Australians can still own guns, just not semi or fully automatic weapons unless they are for hunting or sporting.
