Quick question. I have been using Scenalyzer to capture from my ADVC-100 for some time now. I am now looking for S/W utility proggie to capture rom ADVC-100, but with the ability to control Hue/Brightness/Saturation/Contrast.

Is there such a beast? Freebie is preferred Low cost.....secondary option Thanks.

Many users of the Canopus ADVC-100 seem to prefer ScenalyzerLive as their capture program of choice.

You can't adjust picture properties like contrast/brightness etc. because the conversion from analog to DV happens INSIDE the Canopus ADVC-100 and the signal being passed to your computer is just raw digital data.

If your computer is fast enough it is possible to capture to MPEG-2 using something like Mainconcept MPEG encoder (which as a pretty decent built-in capture module) but that process ... in my mind ... defeats the whole purpose of using the Canopus ADVC-100 to begin with.

If you do need to adjust contrast/brightness, saturation, etc. then you are better off doing it after you capture.

    Thanks, Fulci.

Can you elaborate on that purpose? I have my reasons for agreeing with you, but would like to hear a different perspective.

Well the Canopus ADVC-100 converts to DV AVI format INSIDE of the unit sending that "capture" as pure digital data to the HDD.

It makes sense to just leave it like that rather than try to capture direct-to-MPEG because:

1.) DV AVI is easier to edit
2.) DV AVI can then be processed to MPEG through software

Reason one is simple enough to understand.

Reason two makes sense because software MPEG encoding is not real time. Therefore you can apply filters to clean up the video and/or audio. You can normalize the audio. You can better convert the audio to AC-3 format. You can do a multi-pass VBR.

In short software MPEG encoding gives you MUCH more CONTROL than real-time MPEG encoding.

  6. Thanks, your reasons are exactly the same as mine. I do some MPEG capturing when I am looking for a "quick and dirty" capture, and time to having the disc in my hand is important. Otherwise, it's capture to DV, edit, and convert to MPEG using TMPGenc, which produces extremely high quality discs.

You can use a AVT-8710 TBC and adjust the signal before the Canopus even sees it.

Or you could do the same thing with a SIMA Color Corrector SCC-1 or SCC-2.
