I was browsing through ADVC100 user comments and came across this "I do not own this encoder, but one thing I learned from reading the Canopus
Forums is ADVC-300 does not have the ADVC-100's undocumented 'ignore
dirty signal' feature that allows disabling Macrovision copy protection. This
may or may not be an issue for everyone, but it definitely is something buyers
should know about before spending $500.
Can anyone tell me how one enables this "undocumented feature"?

Hold down the front button for 15-20 seconds. Some say it doesn't work on newer models. You should see the color bars first, then it is supposed to switch in. I get the color bars, but have never been able to tell if the 'no macrovision' option works.

Both bars will light up temporarily, mine switches into digital source, I switch it back to analogue and then stick in a dvd or tape with macroprotect. If done correctly, you'll see the difference. No question. If you want something you can see, then see if a red light appears on the unit while video is running

It definitely works on mine, which is about 5 months old. I specifically tested this "feature" just to see if it was there, though I have never had a need to use it.
