The 107D will not burn 4X media without hacked firmware written by flash or others. This firmware can cause problems and is only at version 1.10. Flash has said he will probably work on a newer version when he has time. The current version of official Pioneer firmware is 1.13 and it specifically states you cannot go backwards to an old firmware.
I would not mess with the hacked firmware myself. Official 8X DVD+R are reasonably priced at around $1, check out Rima.com and ask them for a sample of what you want so you can be sure it will work with Pioneer as I have not seen a list of what 8X works with 1.13 firmware yet. I know from personal experience that Ritek 8X +R works.Still a few bugs in the system... -
technically not any 8x on store shelves. i wouldnt trust 4x at 8x, people get payed big money to design things to work a certain way. just cause some 14 yr old kid in a basement found a work around doesnt mean its a great idea.

i mean i cant get my keys, start my car, drive to an electronic store, get out the car, walk into the store, pay the register person to buy the 8x media... was that enough ,,,,,,
until then i will steer clear, whats a few extra minutes anyways

Thanks, I agree, with email it's tough to communicate expression.

Memorex and Verbatim both have 8x media "on the shelves" :P If it's supported by the current firmware, that's another story.

I use Prodisc +R 8x R03 gone through 100 so far no problems and no coasters $.60 at Rima.com

I have a 107D and I have flashed the hacked firmware.
I am now burning so-called 4X media at 8X with no problems.
I get the feeling that certain discs got rated at 4X because that was the quickest burner available at the time - obviously we won't see 16X compatible media when all we have is 8X burners. It was certainly that way with CDs when they started to infiltrate the market. If in doubt, Google it. -
