i have used the roxio/adaptec easy cd creator delux packages since version 4. i quite enjoy it all. i have not used their dvd copy program though and i personally suggest using DVDSHRINK for all dvd backups.
there are three tools that do all i need to backup/copy a dvd and to make it play ect exactly the way i want it to.
dvddecrypter
dvdshrink
dvdremake

Roxio is festering dog turd.
EZ CD Creator was a pretty good program that quickly spun out of adaptec's control. Version 4 was moderately poorly coded... much like recent releases from Symantec, it was bulky, slow to load up, and had some bizarre incompatibility problems.
Version 5, the first "Roxio" release, was horrific. It failed on more systems than it worked on (in my experience, at least), and heaven help you if you loaded their "on-the-fly CD creator" thinger. ARGH! Talk about system instability.
I'm told that their 7.0 stuff is actually quite nice, but I wouldn't know because I'm not brave enough to install that turd on my system any more.
Someone who USED to have problems and DOESN'T now want to comment? Comments like "I've never had trouble with any of their stuff" don't help those of us who were burned BAD by their software (I had more than one system literally get the HDD corrupted by their software!).

I use Creator 5 on my system from time to time and at one time I did have difficulties (especially when rebuilding) until I found out that I was hosing my system by installing the burning engine from their software AFTER I installed the Roxio burning engine built into Windows Media Player (7 and up I think). I just have to remember to install Creator BEFORE I do all my Windows Updates, otherwise I'll lose my optical drives. Granted, it's an older version, which explains some incompatibility, but it would be nice if either Roxio or M$ gave you some kind of warning beforehand. Once I have it installed (in the right order of course) I have no problems with it and it burns well. Haven't had much experience with anything over v5.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
No no. You see, NO program should be able to hose Windows like that.
You shouldn't be able to install a CD burning application, and have CD burning stop working. System file protection ought to fix that, right?
The monkeys at Roxio are skilled enough, apparently, to work with WFP and get their DLL's registered as the correct ones, but NOT skilled enough to make their DLL's actually WORK.
*sigh*

My memory is not perfect on dates and version numbers, but...
Somewhere around Version 5 of Easy CD Creator and the release of Windows 2000, if you did a default install of Easy CD Creator onto Windows 2000, Windows 2000 would no longer boot. You had to reinstall Windows 2000 before it would boot.
Adaptec eventually came out with a patch, but after installing Easy CD Creator, you HAD to run the patch before rebooting (which the installer prompted you to do), else your Windows 2000 installation was cratered. I distinctly remember reinstalling Windows 2000 for myself and several others due to Adaptec Easy CD Creator.
I have not used any of their software since then. -
I have used Easy CD Creator almost exclusively(except for CloneCD for simple copies) for CD creation....from my Windows 98SE days up to now....in my Windows XP Pro days...and it has performed flawlessly on each and every system I have had it on.
But with programs like DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter out....why would you pay money for ANY dvd copying program? -
