Damn, I hate to see that. That means the studios win because they can afford better lawyers than 3 2 1. Sad

I remember mr moore saying he would give out a serial number that would activate every program for free if this happened. we see.

This is stupit stopping 321 is not going to stop DVD copying. There are so many program's out there and do a better job theb 321. HollyWood just does not get it. If they want to stop copying the should all get together and make there own DVD format making the disc bigger the DVD we have now. Making them not fit is a PC DVD drive. just little long so thye can not fit thats it. If I was a movie company why not start your own tech department and make your own machine's with other movie companies.

Yeah- and nobody'll ever think to make a DVD reader/writer for a PC that will hold a bigger DVD. And everybody will be thrilled that they have to buy a new DVD player for their TV too. -
Attention:MPAA
I boycoot the studios anyway. I never buy new US releases. Yeppers, I got an "IN" with a friend at a rental store. I buy used rentals at Employee prices. Scratched? No Problem, just swap it out with another one.
If I could get a new release at sub $10 pricing, then I'd own a lot more new DVD's. If more movies were released on DVD, I'd own a lot more DVD's (I have a LOT of movies on DVDR that aren't available on DVD, the only VCR I own sits next to my computer)

"BJ_M" yes your right about Target and store like that. But give it time every one will learn about the other program's. If there one friend out of five one person will tell another person about it. They even talked about DVDShrink of the Screensaver on TechTV. They also talked about DVD2ONE but how many people download it ask the person on TV said it's free.

also -- oddly enough .... a lot of people will not use freeware tools for the computer ..
keep in mind that the majority of home users have no clue about anything unless they got some kid in the house to act as thier IT dept ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -

If owning the copyright to the format would solve the problem then the size of the disk wouldn't matter.
Solving the problem has much more to do with many other factors than the size of the disk or whether a reader will fit in a PC. -
a weird - really weird -- thing is products like this from sony , which require you to back up your movie to load it .... and they even tell you how!!!!

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to play your favourite movies and music anywhere you go? Wow! The Sony PCVA-HVP20 features a 3.5" Color Display and a 20 GB hard drive that can carry 31 hours of video. This little marvel weighs only 300g, measuring 84 x 120 x 28 mm with a 3.5" TFT colour LCD. The player supports AVI, WMA, MPEG1 and MPEG2 format movies. The built-in batteries hold four hours of continuous playback or more than 2 movies."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Move company to Russia, no one will sue him!!!! And he probably will make ton of money there. HA HA HA

next they're gonna start looking at the freeware programs like decrypter and shrink. as much as i love those programs i'd kinda like to see them go down. only because of one reason. what happened with napster??? it went down hard, pissed off alot of people though. and low and behold 10 other better progs jumped up. i'd like to see the mpaa to keep pushing. piss enough people off and they start pushing back. keep playin with fire jack off valente YOU ARE GOING TO GET BURNED

am i wrong? -
The biggest problem in terms of pricing isn't the studios themselves (although heaven knows they could stand to cut their wholesale price down). The problem is greedy retailers like Sanity or HMV, who figure that people in isolated towns where the nearest major city is at least three hours' drive away will gladly pay $50 to own a transfer of Rocky Horror Picture Show. I mean... hello? Guys, wake up, this is the age of the Internet, where comparison shopping can be done in the comfort of your own home!
Imagine if consumer confidence in Internet shopping were high enough to make e-business viable. Stores like Sanity would fold left and right."It's getting to the point now when I'm with you, I no longer want to have something stuck in my eye..." -

Although I love the cause I don't have much sympathy for 321 Studios for the reasons cited by Adam. Also, it seems they have slightly overestimated their ability to stay on a legal battlefield. Here, not the quality of your arguments but ultimately the depth of your pockets decides who the winner is. This is a slow and cruel punishment that only a few can withstand. If they don't fold down, soon, instead of developing software they will be 24/7 sorting their legal mail, all employees, CEO included.
They were never highly regarded by anyone. But everyone wants to kill a man carrying a flag in a real battle. They took it upon themselves to bear the colours for the whole media copying world and will probably die as such. Life goes on. As it was indicated often a fallen tree gives life to others. The cause is not lost yet.
Hope Microsoft buys them out. -
There is a bit of truth in the 'size factor'.
I cant recall any LD-player (or "reader" since it would be for PC), not even one (ofcoz external one hehe). Yeah, some standalone LD players had RS- connector for *controlling* the unit of off PC, but thats about it. -
I think this just serves to highlight what an injustice the DMCA is. Under normal circumstances, if a programming trick was somehow defeated, the programmer would be slapped on the wrist and sent back to the drawing board. Now, it seems, the programmer can run off to mother (or the courts in this case) and whine that it violates some law. Both Macrovision and the MPAA need to get a grip and realise that this proves they can't afford to just coast. Even Microsoft don't keep the same old product out for years and expect people to buy it. They do release a new beta from time to time.

As what adam said.
321 brought it on themselves.
THEY SUED the MPAA.
This is probably a bad time to say "I told you so", but as I stated several times in much earlier posts when 321 studios first went crazy and went for a pre-emptive suit against the MPAA that they were going to lose.
The MPAA won't act against freeware/non commercial proggies like DVD Decrypter or SmartRipper after the DeCSS result -- it's not worth their time and effort, and it is in their best interest to not bring attention to these programs anyway.
However, DVD X Copy was a commercial program that incorporated an unlicensed CSS breaking mechanism and this was always going to loose.

Seems like with all this anti-piracy hoopla we are entering the tunnel with no end in sight (considering the Induce Act...).
