I wanted to float this out there to see if anyone else has had the same issue. I have a Toshiba SD-K620 set-top DVD player and, heretofore, has functioned wonderfully. It plays both DVD-/+ without so much as a jitter. On the PC end, I'm using DVD Shrink with CopytoDVD Pro to produce backups, and I use a Lite-On LDW-401S to burn. As far as media is concerned, I use Verbatim Datalife 2x's, Princo 4X's, and Verbatim Datalife 4x's.
Within the last 6 months I have been getting more and more "disk error" messages from my set-top DVD player when trying to read the Princo and Verbatim 4x media (maybe 20% of the time). I never got such messages with the Verbatim 2x's. At first, I thought that the Princo media was faulty in those cases and simply made another backup. However, I recently discovered that those discs that I previously thougt was bad because my Toshiba player wouldn't read them, would play fine in my other two DVD players (a GE and a Daewoo). The Toshiba set would not play some of the 4x media.
Any ideas as to why? My Toshiba is my main player andI'm disturbed by it's occasional trouble reading finished 4x media. I'd hate to have to purchase another DVD player. I've looked for firmware, but have been unable to find any.
