  1. hi, what i would like to do is compress mp3 files smaller than they are so i can email them into yahoo or hotmail emails, which can only send about 3mb until their mailbox is full, then after i send them the mp3 file, i could tell them how they could compress it back to normal

    here is my problem:

i use musicmatch jukebox to convert a mp3 to a wav file, then i use the windows sound recorder to compress the wav file to PCM 8000, 8 bit, mono, which is the smallest that PCM can convert to

i save the file, then load it back to sound recorder, and try to compress it back to normal, well, it does compress it, but the sound or quality is the same , how can i get this to work?

If you compress it then the quality goes, simple as. You can't recompress to a higher bitrate and expect it to sound as good as the original file.

  3. Once you compress an MP3 to a lower bitrate, it is impossible to bring back the original quality.

Here is what yo can do:

    Download HJSplit from http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/

You can split the file into as many smaller files as you want, and then the person you send them to can join them back together.

  4. have you tried mp3pro? its from nero the only good thing they have made, well i think it is. it makes them about half the size of the normal mp3(128 kbps 44100 khz). i don't think the quality suffers one bit. just my 2 cents...........................

  5. MP3pro you must pay for. However, Vorbis offers exceptional quality at tiny bitrates and is well worth a look:

    http://www.vorbis.com

It is totally free. CDex will rip right into Vorbis for you, but if you have a stash of WAV files to convert the best one is OggDropXPd, simply for ease-of-use.

Give Vorbis a shot. It will play back with WinAmp etc. and Vorbis players are now widespread. MP3 is stone-age compared to Vorbis.

    Enjoy!

  6. ok thanks for all your help, i found out how to do it, but it does loses quality, but not that much

i used musicmatch to convert mp3 to wav, then use sound recorder to change compression to mpeg 3 layer 22050, 64kb, cbr stereo

and save as all types as .mp3
