  1. Hi, here is the problem.
Widescreen (16:9) movie plays OK on WinDVD (computer), and
plays as 4:3 on DVDplayer (TV).
IFO files for both menu and movie first have this line:
    Video: MPEG-2 720x576 (PAL) (PAL 625/50) (16:9) (pan-scan)
And then in menu IFO goes:
    VTS_1 Video: MPEG-2 720x576 (PAL) (PAL 625/50) (16:9) (letterbox)
    and in movie:
    Video: MPEG-2 720x576 (PAL) (PAL 625/50) (16:9) (letterbox)
    So, isn't it the source of the problem - (16:9) (pan-scan) ?

go into your dvd players' menu. you see the tv type option. you can choose 16:9, 4:3 letterbox or 4:3 pan and scan. sound like you have it set to 4:3 P&S. change to 4:3 LB if you have a 4:3 TV, or to 16:9 if you have a 16:9 TV.

  3. Thanks for the advice, but it didn't work
I tried to set PS and LB before DVD was in and during playback, -
    nothing helped.
So, my question still remains: does it matter (16:9) and (pan-scan) ?
I'm asking this because I saw in other posts
people had problem like mine having (4:3) (pan-scan) and (16:9) (letterbox)
    in the same IFO file.
So again, is it OK to have (16:9) (pan-scan)?
Maybe I just change (16:9) to (4:3) and that's it?

well the DVD specification supports it so it's ok in that sense, but yeah it looks like patching the file to 16:9 is neccesary.

  5. Hi guys,
is there any tool which will do it properly without having me hack into IFO files?
I mean, something which create proper IFO and other info files
    for the widescreen movie?

all i can suggest is demuxing your vobs into elementary streams and reauthoring the disc.

  8. Ok, I tried the easist way first - using IFOEdit 0.96 created new IFOs
    for my VOBs.
It worked bad in many ways, but most importatnt, that movie still played
as 4:3, although IFOs contained only 16:9 !?
Seems like it's time for demus.
I found some quides on this forum how to do it, but still not clear.
In my case I have 6 VOBs (VTS_01_0..._01_5) and also I have menus and subtitles as well,
and in VobEdit I can open only one VOB at a time.
So tell me where I can find some detailed quide or something how do deal with it.
    Thanks.

rip using dvddecrypter, use stream control. select your video, audio and subs to demux to seperate files. load the audio, subs and video into your authoring app. you'll lose menus but at least you'll have a file that plays properly.

  10. I tried the same DVD on the other DVD player, and it worked well
Mine is Philips DVD 721. But looks like 'interrnally'
(display button when DVD is not loaded) it recognizes itself as 724 !?
I already started demux/mux stuff, but it's a bit complecated:
for de-mux one needs to install a lot of soft, although it's free,
and to put all back together I tried DVD-lab PRO b4, but it did not
want to take my SUB subs
    So I gave up.
