  1. This is kinda complex but some help would be much appreciated. I have looked althrough the forums for solutions, but have not really found what I am looking for. To start with I have made a few movies - but still learning - but it is frustrating as some work no worries at all yet some just seem to arse you around.

I used tmpgenc to create a dvd mpeg file and demuxed the ac3 sound with virtual dub. The original video file is a divx (dvdrip) file. Everything seemed to go fine as usual, but when I went to play the final dvd I got sound but no video using dvd player software. Is it possible that the tmpgenc video dvd coding can go wrong? this is done on a powerful system.

Anyone got any ideas why this would happen?

This might not be quite the right forum, but figure it will do:

Half the trouble is that my dvd player is old - a Panasonic a300 u, I have read about it here, but I am having trouble figureing out whether it is the actual dvd discs themselves that are the problem or if the dvd player is too old itself to handly certain dvd formats - i.e straight dvd copies or dvds form avi's ntfs or pal e.t.c I did have Imitation dvd discs now I have this princo discs as I understand they do appear to work with my dvd player but I am now unsure. Of course I will try to play them on another newer dvd player to see if they work but just got to get to one, anyone else had any trouble with this.

anyway that will do for now, sorry for the lenghty post - but I am sure others are having the same problem

    thanks heaps

Does the DVD you made play on your pc with sound ??

  4. Yes it also played just the sound and no video through the pc. Might I also add I suspect that the original dvd video file that i created through tmpgenc did not seem right as I loaded it up through virtual dub, and it did not really play the video. I author the ace sound and video through
tmpgenc author, and like I said I have done a few before that have worked fine

    thanks

Forget your DVD Player for now , if it won't play on your PC it isn't going to play on anything.

It is important if you are having problems to check the playback at EVERY stage of the process. You need to find at which point the problem occurs.

    So
1Does the original Divx play fine on your PC.
2 Check the Divx file for bad frames using virtualdub mp3 freeze.
3 If it reports bad frames remove them
4 If you have had to remove bad frames , does the new saved avi play ok.
5 You extract the ac3 , I know your sound is ok but check the saved audio file plays.
6 If all is ok , Encode the video with TMPGenc .
7 Once done play back the m2v file , does it seem ok
8 If it is ok , Author the file , Tmpgenc DVD Author if you use that, that creates the Video_TS folder.
9 Find the Video_TS folder select a vob does it play ok (pic and sound)
10 Then and only then burn to a disc , then test the disc in your pc
11 Does it play , if ok ,then try it in a DVD Player.

When I say test at every stage I don't mean play the whole file, Just a few seconds will let you know if you have a problem or not.
But you need to know exactly where it has gone wrong. Post back when you know at which point something is wrog and we will help sort it out.

The disc you have now is a coaster so forget that one.

  6. I did play a bit of the m2v file back through virtual dub, and i did not seem to play back video, so I am sure something went wrong with the
TMPGenc coding as the video ts folder did not play either. But thanks for the tip on checking for bad frames I will do that to start with and see what happens - may well be the problem.

    thanks mate

  7. sorry my bad actually, quite annoying but I realised that tmp.. was not playing the video as it was encoding so I checked the settings and that direct multimedia show setting had gone back to its default setting - as in not at the top of the list, so I set that back and it seems to be working better.

    Well good lesson I suppose.

    Thanks anyway
