    Hi Guys,

    Just sort of an FYI.

Sonic FOundry's Vegas Video will open Vob's Direclty after they are ripped / decrypted. If you have all files showing, you can drag the vob's directly into it and re-encode.

Built into Vegas is Ligos Mpeg 1 and 2 support / encoding. They are fully flexible templates to allow for any type of stream audio and video manipulation. The true advantage of this is that the encoding time is QUICK. It takes roughly 10 minutes more than the length of the movie, with no loss of quality as compared to TMPG, etc.

The only part of the process which takes any time is when you originally enter the vob''s into the layout it creates a preview audio and video line (approx. 10 minutes per vob). If these could be frameserved, you truly would be flying. Please post any questions or ideas as I think this is going to offer another good avenue for encoding, and especially very good editing.

Enjoy all who have Vegas !!!!! If you don't, demos are available at sonicfoundry.com, and I believe I've heard of other places you can visit so demos don't remain demos.

I have version 2.0d My Version A wouldn't open mpg's, but version D does. I believe that Sefy said ver G does too, but I haven't heard back from him yet on the vob support.

I got ver D and it's "license" all off of Morpheus. I don't know if Morpheus is still up though.

    Let me know any ?'s

Yep. You must install all of those first. I do also have the SF Capture Utility that plugs into Vegas for any DV or analog capture. I still must use Dazzle for my Mpeg Encoder obviously though.

Sefy, please check your mail. I wrote you more extensively. Thanks Bro !!!!!

    Meandhers,

If oyur sys can't handle CCE, I am fearful it may not like Vegas either. It is a very robust proggy, especially if you are gonna work with vob's

How is the quality? Does it compare to Tmpgenc? Is it really that fast??
Also does any one know if the "2.0H" version handles VOB's??

Vegas Video reports an error when attempting to open a VOB...and then traps on exit. I have some more experimenting to do... Thanks Spidey for all of your help. If I figure out the cause of the crashes, I'll post the info here. Someone else may benefit from that info.

  20. Ok!! I figured out the Video portion. The only thing is when I open up the VOB, it doesn't recognise the Audio part.
Can ANYONE help with this?? I like the results so far!
    Thanks

Meandhers, I don't know why it wouldn't see the vob's audio track. On mine, I ripped down with SmartRipper, the it loaded fine. Did you rip your vob's as files or as a "Movie" ? Maybe that may cause a conflict if oyu have the raw vobs, as they may not be "directed" towards 1 angles view ? I know, I know,..it doens't make much sense, but I don't know why it would let you open the video and not the audio. LOL..it's usually the other way around. I'll keep thinking on it.

Biggs, I believe you must also load MS DV utility patch. This is what I think may give Vegas the support for the vobs. I was prompted to d/l it and install it when I tried to load the capture utility. I got the capture utility off of Morpheus. You can not d/l it unless you have a fully licensed version from Sonic FOundry.

I'm sorry to not be of more help guys. Please let me know any other questions, I'll keep trying to think on it. THanks.

  23. I got the demo version 2.0h and it won't open .VOB or .mpeg

    It will open .AVI though,

I do have directx 8.0a and the DV fix updater installed. I chose a .vob that I have successfully encoded (in .mpeg) with TMPGenc.

Is this something limited by it being a demo?
    Quote Quote
  24. Also, the supported format list does not include .VOB

    http://www.sonicfoundry.com/products/NewShowProduct.asp?PID=280&FeatureID=2757&FeatureTL=2685

It does show MPEG is supported though, yet still it won't open my .MPEG files...

  25. sorry to spam the board, I must be the only one who is up all night.

To update: I got version 2.0d (build 384) and same problem, no .VOB no .MPEG

Then I aquired the serial number that upgrades it to full version and now .MPEG is supported but still no .VOB

I have to admit I'm stuck at figuring out how you folks got VOB to load into Vegas Video. The only reason I'm trying so hard to find out is I was hopeful after hearing how fast it encoded the VOB into MPEG.

I believe that you need to make sure that you have Directx 8.0a and the DirectX DV upgrade as well to get VOB file support. Also, I had problems when I didn't follow the process to enter the serial number EXACTLY as it was stated.

  27. Hi Guys,

Just wondering is this just a challenge to achieve something new or is this a potential breakthrough which will allow better and faster rips than all the other software which is currently being used? As a newbie to this it is already confusing with all the different packages to perform the different functions, is there any possibility that there may be a "definitive, all in one wonder tool" out there someday which will simplify things and provide a good all round result, or having come in late have we already got that but now everyone is trying to squeeze more horse power out of the thing?

  28. guys:

How does the quality of vegas mpeg encoding compares with tmpgenc? Is it atleast the same? How much control does it give for the encoding process?

    Hey All,

Quality question, yes it's easily the same.

Speed wise it varies, I don't know how or why. I've had some vobs cook through at almost playback speed, some at about TMPG speed. It uses the Ligos engine for both Mpeg 1 and 2 encoding.

Install issues, you MUST have all the above patches installed, and it MUST be a fully "licensed" version. I have only gotten v 2.0d to work. My version 2.0a, even when it was "licensed" wouldn't support mpeg's or vobs. But v 2.0 d has. Sefy has also gotten ver 2.0 g to work too.

I know I haven't given much info, but hope it helped somewhat.
