My unit is around 2 years old & has always worked great.

I just burned a Maxell DVD-R disk at 4x (7000avg bitrate full resolution) and it freezes after a second or two no matter what chapter I try.

Last week I burned a half-res DVD at 4x on a Maxell DDV-R and it plays fine as does a Ridata DVD +RW disk. Store DVD's play fine,

Could this be a bitrate issue with the player?
The disk that freezes does play when used through the PS2 & also plays on the computer also.

sounds like you encoded your audio to .ac3 using bsweet, right?

ac3 using ffmpegui. I still have the original .avi.
I'll extract the .wav and try that. The video is only an hour
so I have the room on the disc.

Is it a combo problem with high bitrate & ac3?

My lower bitrate half res disc also have ac3 & play fine.

it may be worth running your high bitrate file through bitrate viewer to check if it goes over spec.

Erased my +RW disc and rebrned using uncompressed audio & it worked.
Ran Bitrate viewer - it reported peak of 7565 so I either experiment with lower bitrates with AC3 or try to always use uncompressed as long as I have the DV-333. thanks for thehelp
