  1. Okay I am gonna be VERY careful how I ask this. If someone wanted to get the videos or audio tracks out of a ps2 or xbox game, is there a way to do this? Like for instance, if someone downloaded an image of a ps2 game could they remove the movies or sound files? The person would not copy the game itself since that person may not even have the game system itself.

Could this be done? In theory of course.

You could do it by hooking the game system up to a capture card to load it to your computer

There were some apps that would do this on your computer
    for psone games at
    www.consolecopyworld.com or www.gamecopyworld.com

These apps were not very effective on ps2 games all the time though

For the xbox you might try asking at www.xbox-scene.com forum

  6. Just exactly how could you capture the audio and video if you do have the system. You see I'm making a skate video, theres a song on tony hawk 4 I want to use, but I cant find it anywhere. So can I get it off of my video game? right now I have my firewire plugged into my PS2 but nothing is happening on my desktop. What do I need to do to activate my ps2 as a device? If I can do that I will probably be able to do an audio capture with adobe premiere. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You can use a dazzle device and hook it up to ps2
    http://www.pinnaclesys.com/Category.asp?Category_ID=1&Langue_ID=7&Family=24

    or

    Firewire capable camera
I use a canon zr10 and can hook it up to the ps2 via rca jacks and connector from radioshack then I hook my camera up to my laptop

There are many other ways those are just 2

No drivers it will not work you need a capture device that has drivers so you need a firewire camera or a caputer device like the dazzle

OK you have a firewire card an not a video capture card right?
Firewire is used for external HD's, DVD writers, Firewire cameras, and external firewire capture devices.

The firewire for the PS2 was used so you could have head to head combat like 2 cars racing against each other simultaneously in Gran Turismo 3.
(Also to do this you needed a firewire cable, 2 ps2's, 2 televisions, and 2 copies of the game (they also figured out a way to load and swap))

The ps2 firewire port is actually a low pwered version of firewire and the ps2 doesnt have win98/xp drivers to tell the computer that it is a video sender device. The port was not meant to send out video.

You need to have a device that is a go between for the ps2 and the computer.

You can use 2 things that I know of

    A. Firewire enabled video camera

    Step 1
PS2 with RCA jacks--->3 rca to rca adaptors
or this (one of each) ---->firewire camera RCA adaptor--->firewire camera

Start PS2 then hit record on camera saving to DV tape

    Step 2
firewire camera--->firewire cable--->firewire port on computer
    --->computer--->editing software--->

    B. Video capture device
    Step 1
PS2 with RCA jacks--->rca jacks on Firewire and/or USB device--->
Firewire and/or USB capture device-->firewire card or USB 2.0 card on computer--->Computer--->editing software--->

I just reread you post if you just want to do audio its a lot simpler
    buy this
    http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=274-369

Hook the red and white cables of the ps2 rca adaptor in to that and then insert the other end into your line-in or mic port of your computer.

If you have the Platinum version of Easy CD/DVD 6 then you can use spin doctor and record the sound as a .wav file

  13. Ok that makes perfect sense. Weren't you saying that you bought a cable that converts from RCA to firewire. cause I would rather use one of these and by pass the steps using my digital camcorder. Also, what if I just wanted to play my ps2 using my computer.

    I use my video camera
The dazzle devices will do the conversion

    (Click on hardware excessories)
The cheapest one is about $80 and if you want to do a good job you really need to get the $150-200 version.

If you already have a firewire capable camera and software (since you have a firewire port) you can do it without spending anymore money period

You need a VGA converter to play your ps2 on your computer screen

    http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/ps2-bvgac

    or this

    http://www.divineo.com/cgi-bin/div-us/p2-vgabox

There are many other choices out there these are just two

You can use the RCA to 1/8" stereo converter if audio is all you want to do costs under 5 bucks if you want video you will need a device like the dazzle
