  1. I'm about to buy 50 printables, DVD-R or DVD+R, though I prefer DVD-R since thats what I've been using and it works on all my standalones. I'm just wondering what the best deals are now on good quality printable media.

I am getting excellent results with prodiscS03 silver top printables on NEC 2500a and Pioneer 105. On NEC getting burns at 8x using Herrie's 1.07v2b5 FW.

Also getting good results fron RiData (Ritek G04) white top printables using same drives . 8x on NEC. Little more expensive then the prodisc.

my memorex dvd-r have been perfectly fine.. all 50 worked, but they werent printables.

also is silver top ok? or is white top better?

I've used 500 of them, had maybe 15-20 coasters in all. That's a good ratio for budget media. And when it was bad, the whole thing was bad (none of that at-the-end-only mess).

    300 were white thermal
    200 were silver matte
and I have 200 more here silver matte, should last a month or more

Anyone tried using these Prodisc printables with a Plextor 708 writer, that is what I have and was just curious if they worked OK. Thank you.

I used them on my Plex 708a also and they burn at 4x. No problems so far. But I normally burn using my NEC since it burns the S03 at 8x since the hax'd 2500a seems to luv this disk.

DTSLO6 thank you for the reply, I think I will give them a try, so far my best results have been with the Verbatim and Maxwell only with the Plex but they are pretty pricey compared to the Prodisc. Thanks for your help.
    Thank You,

Silver/pearl top (ProdiscS03) using a Epson 900 printer set on CD/DVD, photo and 0 creates a hologram effect image on the disk. You can see the reflective surface thru the pic. Setting the printer to glossy paper. photo and 0 results in a darker print since more ink is applied, looses some of the hologram effect.

White tops (Ritek G04) using same printer set on CD/DVD, photo and 0 results in a faded image on my printer. When set to glossy paper or photo paper with photo and 0 the image is draker (more ink).

Overall the image created using the white tops is closer to the original then the silver/pearl top disk. But I found that using the CD/DVD setting on the silver/pearl top S03 seems to produce a less smearable image (less ink?) and unless you really try to smear it its pretty smear proof with out having to over spray with a clear coat as with some of the white tops that I used in the past.

Great advice. I just purchased the Epson R200 strictly to print discs. Couldn't afford not to at 99.00 less 50.00 rebate at Office Depot so I guess I will need to play around with the settings of this particular printer to see what works best. You have been a great help and I really appreciate your taking time to speak to me. Have a great day.

  18. Hey guys,
I noticed that y'all are having some of the same troubles I have.
I have a TDK 840G (dual format) 8x, and I was using Memorex DVD+R ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000ET93T/qid=1086905370/sr=8-1/ref=pd_...photo&n=507846 ) but encountered an incompatibility problem with some of my dvd+r's not being compatible w/ the end user's standalone player because of the book-type setting being DVD+R and not capable of being changed, I was also having problems with the DVD+r's pausing and skipping about 15 into the movie and toward the end of the movie. I've since switched to Memorex DVD-R ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000ET7U6/ref=pd_sbs_p_3/102-2365390-36...onics&n=507846 )
in hopes of getting better end user compatibility results as well as eliminating the skipping problem.

The compatibility issue is marginably better which I'm satisfied with since I'm not sure if the end users that had problems with the dvd+r's are happy with the dvd-r's, and because the dvd-r's are compatible with AS MANY end users as the dvd+r's. But the skipping problems still persist, and I'm just stumped. I tried upgrading the firmware to 1.04 then to 1.06, but when trying to solve the problem of the DVD+r's skipping I noticed better results with the 1.04 firmware version rather than the 1.06 version, so I un-installed the 1.06 and re-installed the 1.04..... After switching to DVD-R I have not tried the 1.06 firmware version.

I would greatly appreciate any insight into correcting this problem.
If it helps any, with the movies that skip near the beginning of the movie, I've noticed a small difference in consistency where the lead-in ends and the rest of the burn begins on the bottom of the DVDR as if the Lead-in doesn't fully connect with the rest of the burn. (I've learned to recognize what the lead-in is from making coasters that never finalized and comparing them to fully finalized and functioning dvdr's).
I am wondering if it is the media, the firmware, or possibly my burner.
BTW, I'm using CopyToDVD to burn and DVD2One to rip.
    HELP PLEASE

  19. I have followed all the links given and I am looking @ the Prodisc printable dvd+r 4x white tops.
I wonder if anyone with a TDK 840G/Plextor 708 has used these and with what results, whats the media ID code, and if the printable surface extends over the hub?
Let me know.... email me if possible (eastpoint@hotmail.com)

I would try some of the other brands of disks avaiable. Many disk suppliers do packs which have a few diffrent brands they supply to allow testing, sound like this is what you need. Personally i use Ritek Go4 -R Printables and have yet to find a player that they dont work in.

  23. I have a few ?uestions....
ProDisc R02 or ProDisc S03: whats the difference and which has better results?
I have heard(read) that ProDisc has discontinued its 4x +R white printables... whats the media code for the discontinued ones.
Has anyone used the 8x +R white printables like the ones discontinued and what were the results, haven't seen much feedback on the 8x.

If/Since ProDisc has discontinued their 4x +R white printables and still have 4x -R white printables available..... ProDisc 4x DVD-R white printables (R02 or S03 I believe) VS. Ritek 4x DVD+R white printables (G04 I believe), which has better results and greater compatibility?
I'm using a TDK 840G burner, CopyToDVD to burn, and DVD2One to rip.
