When loading an AVI, I get this weird "stepping" effect (see attachment). I made this from a VHS tape using Pinnacle DC10/Studio 8 (I can hear the screams of anguish out there already). The AVI plays fine in BSPlayer but not so fine in WMP8, the image is all tall and skinny. Anyway if anyone can help I'd be grateful

  2. Since your post has not been answered yet I will take a stab at it.

I can't see your attachment but I'm guessing that it either a field
order issue or an interlace issue.

I'm not familiar with the Pinnacle DC10 card
or Studio 8, but there should be a setting there to either
change the field order from A to B or vice versa OR capture
in de-interlaced mode. If this is not the case then you will
need to deinterlace your source video in studio 8.

Post a pic if you can.

I agree. Sounds like interlaced video.

Actually I like Studio 8 for certain things, its encoder is lacking though.

This is a common issue. Though this is not completely accurate from a technical standpoint, its the easiest way to think about it...

A computer screen shows pixels as a perfect square. However, TVs do not show them as a perfect square. Instead a TV pixel is wider than it is tall. BSPlayer realizes this fact and compensates for it. WMP does not and just shows the pixels as square. The effect is tall and skinny people. There is nothing wrong, it is just WMP doesn't have the extra code to handle it. Your video is fine.

Thanks chaps, but I can't find anything to do with de-interlacing on either the DC10 card or Studio 8 program. Hey ho, let's pay the money for something decent like the Canopus analogue to digital converter.
