Hello. I have a downloaded Xvid file, and I'm having some playback problems. Here is the situation....

The picture jerks, or you can say the frames lag when it's playing. It's not smooth. To fix it, I have to install the XviD codec. Once I run the file again right after installation, it plays perfectly. BUT, if I close it and run the file again, it jerks. The same things happen. I have to reinstall the Xvid codec, it plays smooth, then if I rerun, same problem.

What's causing this? Some decoder problem?

If not, why would installing the xvid codec play it fine, then play it bad again RIGHT after?

ALSO, this only happens in Windows Media Player. DivX Player works good.

  2. Do you have ffdshow installed? Maybe it's interfering, trying to take over XviD playing.

Also, maybe WMP is DL-ing new codecs everytime.

    Ditto to the above.
i had a problem with a file and on one pc it would play fine on another it wouldn't play right . The only difference between the two pc's I could find was ffdshow was installed on the one with the problem.
Uninstalled ffdshow and it was fine.
If its needed again it can be easily reinstalled but everything works fine without it for now.

I get the same problem with or without FFDShow installed.

    Any other ideas?

  5. WMP is DirectShow Player, while DivX is not, AFAIK. Try with Media Player Classic or BSPlayer, and see if they have the same problems.

Media player Classic plays it fine, except the picture is upside down.

BS Player did the same jerk/lag.

My standard answer for downloaded material:

If the video is available for retail, you should buy it. No worries about crappy burns, conversions or play issues, and you get extras, packaging, etc.
