  1. I've just created my first movie with my new Cam. I got everything edited and ready in DV AVI format on my computer now. I just want this to be converted in to real DVD files to be able to show it to the family.

So... I tried alot of programs now to be able to convert my DV AVI files. Here is my bad luck:

    With DVDSanta:
The convert went fast and nice. I burned the converted files on a DVD. Both with DVDSanta and tried once with NERO Butning ROM. Both times I got a choppy and bad picture. 2 DVD discs wasted for nothing.

    With cucuSoft:
That program is just crap. Got no sound among other little stuff. Another DVD disc wasted.

    With DIKO:
Everything went good. Converted the files with it. Burned them with NERO Burning ROM. Picture was fine... not great it got some issues in some parts of the picture, but it was accaptble. BANG! Now the audio doesn't sync with the Video with almost 15 seconds delay!! Another DVD disc wasted!

Now this is driving me NUTS! What am I doing wrong anyway? I got like one more day before the family dinner and I just want this movie to be done! Sure I can show them from the cam, but they will not get the nice edit and sound and music I have edited in with my computer.

Any ideas at all? I am desperate!
    I must honor the code

IMHO, your prob is you're using "one-click-wonder" apps. Take a deep dive in the AVi to DVD conversion section, and be prepared to invest some time and effort learning new concepts. And another soon-to-pay-off investment: A DVD-RW!

  3. Use VirtualDub and frameserve to TMPGenc. 1-Click "Wonders" are garbage.

Also don't burn the cd's at too high a speed. Some older players have trouble reading anything burned higher than 10x. They'll lose audio sinc.

  7. Start doing your first burns to a DVD-RW. If that plays OK, then copy to DVD-R. You can then go ahead and re-use the -RW for another project.

Forte, have you tried playing your DVD on your computer with PowerDVD or any other DVD playing program? If it doesn't work on the computer, then something is wrong somewhere in the conversion/authoring/burning. However, if it DOES play, then it's either a bad pack of discs, (which still should work for data so don't pitch them) or just that your DVD player will not take that disc. I've never tried DVD Santa or DIKO so I cannot report on their quality. I do not use a 1 click solution either, but that does NOT mean they are garbage. You just have more control of what you are doing when you use separate programs. However, if you are just starting out, then you may want to use one. Personally, i'd try a different brand of disc first (the cheap 1x CompUSA discs play good in my player) or try a DVD-RW if your DVD player allows. If that doesn't work, then you may want to try Converting and Authoring with different programs. Nero is a fine burning program so you don't need anything else there.

Hope this helps. Let me know what happens & Good Luck!

There are many ways to measure success. You just have to find your own yardstick.
