  1. I was just wondering because I have spent HOURS upon HOURS trying to get my downloaded 3ivx w/AAC audio to DVD. The PQ is excellent. First off, my OS is Windows XP. I downloaded and installed Quicktime just so I could play the file. The file played successfully with sound and looked EXCELLENT. Then I got the plug-in for TMPGEnc so it would recognize the file. Loaded up ok, then converted to DVD, as system (audio + video) and then elementary (audio + video). After authoring with TMPGEnc DVD Author, both times I am getting video just no audio. Tried PCM too, no success. No sound. Does anyone know how to get the sound out of this? I don't even care if it is a .WAV, as long as I can hear it. Thanks in advance.

Hello again. Try installing this AAC decoder and see if TMPGEnc will allow you to encode the audio.

Installed that and the 3ivx package as well. No sound. I can get the video, just no sound. I HAVEN'T tried Quicktime PRO yet. I think i'll just give up. Oh well, at least I figured out that MainConcept is the way to go when converting avi files. No jerky video with that. Now I just need to make sure I DON'T download 3ivx files until the format becomes more popular. Looks really nice though. There could be a great future with this. Thanks for all your help. Please let me know if you find out anything new.

Don't give up so soon because I figured out another way to extract mp4 audio to wav using a little program called Graphedit. I found a guide for converting OGM files to AVI. The file types are completely different but the technique is the same. Read the guide here. Bear in mind that I got it to work because I have the Core AAC deoder that I linked to in my post above. It is assumed that your mp4 files have AAC audio just as mine does. If yours have some other audio compression you will have to make some changes in your graph. Here's what to do in Graphedit:

    1. Go to file, select "Render Media File". I moved things around so that everything could be seen on one screen but your connections will look something like this:

    2. Remove "3ivx D4 Video Decoder". Do this by clicking on its box, go to edit and select "delete". Also remove the video and audio renderer boxes. Your audio renderer will be named something else but inside the box it will say "audio input pin (rendered)".

    3. Click on the blue rectangle button(insert filter). Go to "Directshow filters" and select "WAV Dest", and then "File Writer". It will then prompt you to choose a file name. Make sure you add the .wav extension. Once you do that, close the insert graph box.

    4. You now need to connect everything. It should look like this:

    5. Once you have everything linked up, click on the green play icon. The play icon will be greyed out while it is working. Wait a little while and you will have yourself a wav file which can then be used as an audio source in TMPGEnc.

  6. I'll give it a try for the audio. BUT, I don't want to use TMPGEnc anymore for encoding now that I have found MainConcept. I know that with TMPGEnc, the last Divx and Xvid I converted were jittery. Every 20 seconds or so you would get the not-so-smooth motion. I switched this morning and MainConcept is awesome! No more jitters. I would assume that the same thing is going to happen with the MP4 file, but who knows, maybe i'll give it a shot. Any ideas on how to use MainConcept to convert the MP4 video to DVD?

Mainconcept doesn't recognize mp4 containers(already tried). You will have to use TMPGEnc. It's great that you were able to get better results with Mainconcept for converting your avi's but TMPGEnc can produce the same results, albeit SLOWER. TMPGEnc isn't a bad encoder but it does require a good understanding of its various settings in order to get the best results. In fact, for this particular task(mp4 to mpg) it beats Mainconcept hands down.

I hope you're able to extract the audio from your mp4 without any problems.

  8. teegee 420 I am also having problems converting mp4(3ivx) to mpeg-2. I am trying to use the grapedit program but I am having problems with step three listed above. I go to directshow filters but am not seeing the WAV dest subcategory. All I see is WAV parser under directshow filters. Am I missing something? Thanks guys!!

  9. It's an optional filter.

There's no need to download a filter pack to get "WavDest.ax", it's available in the package "WMA2WAV" located at:
    http://www.divx-digest.com/software/wma2wav.html

Be patient, teegee420 is pretty sharp.

  10. OK thanks to gastorgrab I have the WAV dest filter, but I can't get the File Writer option to show up. I have attached a screenie to show you what I am looking at.

  13. Man video editing takes a PHd i swear. I was able to encode it using tmpenc w/ qtreader and using the wav as the audio source. It encoded fine but now there is audio sync issues. I have had nothing but problems with 3ivx mov movies.

I am wondering if the resampling at different audio HZ caused the problems. Is there any way to change the HZ for audio resampeling in graphedit? thanks guys.

  14. Just playing around with the audio and I am noticing the souce audio in 3ivx is 3200 HZ PCM and that needs to go to 48000 HZ for DVD authoring. Do you think I am loosing the sync because of this conversion. Also in tmpgenc on the first screen of the project wizard should i do CBR Mpeg-1 or CBR Linear PCM Audio when I encode the file?

TMPGEnc doesn't handle sampling rate conversions very well. You're better off doing this with a wave editor like Goldwave (there are plenty of other editors that can do this too) for converting it to 48000hz. You'll probably have to re-encode the video too.
