  8. I believe there is a bad lot of Ritek's DVD that were recently released to retailers. I'm not sure if the lot is confined to newegg.com, but should you fall victim, be sure to demand a refund, not an echange!

I really liked the Ritek's too! But due to their inconsistent quality control, it looks like I'll go back to using Verbatim DatalifePlus DVD+R and the Taiyo Yuden DVD+R!

    Dear NewEgg:

Both, Ritek DVD+R Media 50pks from the invoice order are DEFECTIVE, and have been verifed as such by disk error verfication sotfware programs. The DVD+Rs fail to meet consumer merchantability expectations and as such, request is made for replacements.

Attempts were made to secure RMA Repair Request via online, however, such request could not be completed.

Riteks are listed on your website as exchangable for the exact same item, and we expect such terms to be honored. However, if the replacement DVD media is also found to be defective, the only reasonable recourse would be to demand a complete, irrespective of your no refund policy, under California's Uniform Business Code's Implied Merchantability Statutes.

Please advise as to how we might exchange this defective media expeditiously. Time is of the essence.

What is the California's Uniform Business Code's Implied Merchantability Statutes? NewEgg is a fine company and I don't want them getting sued but I can see the issue with them continuosly sending bad media. I bought some terrible Optodisc DVD-Rs from NewEgg that not only had dye issues but CRUD on the edges of the writing surface that affected burning. Knowing that I would only get more of these shitty discs plus 8$ shipping, I counted it as a loss.

Can't they send the bad discs back to Ritek? If Best Buy sells a bad dish washer, can they just say we can't assure Maytag's quality assurance? Well maybe they can, they will say use the Maytag warranty if it is past Best Buy returns period. Best Buy also does not offer refunds on media btw. It's a tough call. Personally, I would buy one small batch of media from a company, and if it is good, buy much more soon after.

Hi. On this subject of cheap versus expensive (aka 'good') media I thought I'd add my limited, newbie, input for what its worth. A friend and I began backing up movies a few weeks back, and we naturally went for the cheapest media we could get our hands on. We were buying these bulkpaq orange top DVD-R's. The result was the much refered to problem of pixelisation towards the latter part, followed by full suicide. Coasters galore ! I found this website and read the advise about media. The final two movie coasters, we left the ripped file 'as was' and I bought a few Maxell DVD-R's which we burned on to. The only difference in our proceedure was the change of media. PERFECT burns ! We have burned an average 100 times since then using only Maxell DVD-R's and occasionally Verbatim, and had not a single coaster. This proved the point that quality media DOES make a diffrerence, and the advise given on this site is spot on. (Thanks guys) Expensive media may cost slightly more, but what the heck, its worth it for decent burns and peace of mind. You spend so much on everything else, why skimp on a few cents for better media. Find a forumula that works, find a good media that works (Maxell or Verbatim) and stick to it. Its cheaper in the long run.

High quality media is expensive unless you see it on sale at OFFICE DEPOT, OFFICE MAX & BEST BUY. They usually have buy one spindle get one free types of sales. MAXELL DVD-R 4x & FUJI (TAIYO YUDEN) DVD-R 4x are the best brands of media. They are expensive if not on sale.

  13. Newegg is my Ritek G04 vendor of preference and, ordering 50 at a time, I've never had a bad batch. I think there are some squeaky wheels out there, but I believe this implication that Ritek has developed systemic quality problems is total hogwash.
