I never heard of one brand over another. However, since it will be capturing, ensure it has 7200 rpm or faster. Also getting a drive whose capacity is lower than 80 GB will not do you much good in the long run.
Hello. -
You motherboard will likely have 2 IDE slots , allowing 4 dirives to be attached if these are used i.e. 2 optical drives and 2 30GB hard drives you need to consider how you want to do it.
You could replace your secondary hard drive with a larger one OR you can get an IDE expansion card that slips into a spare pci slot in your PC which allows up to 4 additional drives to be added.
These are cheap , aroud £15 in UK thats just over $20 US .
Just something for you to consider. -
ok, thanks for the reply but i have another query, i been looking around and there are as i can see 3 different types of hard drives
1. IDE
2. SCSI
3. SERIAL ATA
im sure that i have SCSI drives, so would should i go with one of those.
also, i have 2 optical drives DVD writer and a CD rom, and 2 hard drives 30 each, so it may sensible for me to buy an IDE expansion card.

My recommendation would be a Western Digital SATA drives. They are fast and reliable.
I work for a storage subsystems mfg and we literally build and sell hundreds of terrabytes of SATA-based storage systems -- all based on these drives. They have proven fast and reliable in a traditionally SCSI environment.
We have tried many of the other "large" drive mfg's in our products and have found that these drives provide the best value, performance and reliability.
Just my opinon, though -- but based on experience!! -
