Can't use vitualdub to cut widescreen bars

I've got a movie with parts in widescreen and the rest in anamorphic widescreen.

Anyways I need to cut the black bars off. I heard you can do this with virtualdub but the program won't let me load the files. I'm using pinnacle 8.10 to capture via firewire from my digitl camcorder. Why do you think virtualdub won't open my files? Or is there a better way to cut of the black boxes?

You should actually list why it won't let you open them. You won't get many answers without giving any information.

Does VirtualDub report an error of any sort?

Sounds like you might be missing a DV codec. The error message in Virtualdub would have said something about "cannot locate decompressor dvsd".
