Using winxp cannot logon. The system will boot up to the logon window and ask for the administrator password. I don't think that I ever gave it a password. How can I find out. I tried F8 but without the password I can only shutdown.

If you never put in a password, just hit return and it should start. Something has changed your startup to include a login screen. Any software recently added like .NET?.

Thanks for replying redwudz. I did not mention that I'm using RAID in mirror mode. Nothing installed recently. I think that I unchecked "use the welcome screen" . I went to Control Panel then clicked "User Accounts" then clicked "change the way users log on and off" and unchecked both selections(inadvertently of course).
Is there any way to get at this problem using DOS?

Here's one site on windows logon problems, http://www.wintrouble.net/discus/messages/53/3379.html?1021048485. You can also do a Google search for 'eliminate windows logon', if that's what you want to do.

    Hello Again,

I have read a lot of articles and all of them suggest fixes after loggin on to windows. I can't log on because I can't get past the log on screen asking for the administrators password which I don't know.

A little late on the response here, but I had that issue not so long ago with XP. My problem was that I could not log in as the administrator, but I could log on as a user WITHOUT adminstrative privileges...

I read about 1000 different articles at microsoft, I was all over their their user groups, and still no solution.

What I ended up doing was I booted from the CD and reinstalled XP over the old copy. It wasn't too bad getting all of my desktop ICONs and shortcuts back. I didn't reinstall the whole way, when the install restarted the PC, I went into the BIOS and choose to boot from the HD again and it started properly and has ran just fine ever since.

I got the problem when I upgraded to SP1.

But you have it working now, so never mind me.
