Thief Steals Yacht Out of Love for His Daughter

DUBLIN (Reuters) - A thief living in Ireland missed his young daughter so much that he stole a 84,000 euro ($100,000) yacht and sailed to England to see her.

Ignoring a budget airline industry which offers flights across the Irish Sea for a handful of euros, Lawrence McMillan took the yacht from a marina in southern Ireland and headed east, a court heard.

"It was a most foolhardy expedition, but he wanted to return to his daughter in Boston, Lincolnshire, to whom he is deeply attached," McMillan's lawyer said.

The would-be sailor, a 53-year-old Scottish-Canadian who lived in a caravan in western Ireland, ran into trouble off the English coast and had to be rescued by helicopter, newspapers reported Friday.

The court sentenced him to 14 months in jail Thursday.

This is the only part of an otherwise fine story that fucks me off.
We had a guy in the UK this week get off scott free for child abuse (he swung a two year old around, the mother secretly filmed it as she'd suspected he'd been hurting the child so God only knws what she didn't film) and this poor bastard goes down for fourteen months for borrowing some toffee-nosed bastards boat.
Is it just me, or is this world fucked up?

The world certainly is that, along with a whole load of other things.

Look at Maxine Carr - she's getting out soon, and the taxpayer gets the pleasure of paying for her to move to another country and have her identity protected. For what she did, she ought to be banged up for an awful lot longer than this.

The world is fine - its the bloody people that are the problem. This guy lives in a caravan anyway so a stay in prison wont be that much of a culture shock.
