I'm trying to download the updates for windows from the microsoft website. I'm running xp pro 2600. When I try to d/l them the site says.

    Access Denied

Network policy settings prevent you from using Windows Update to download and install updates on your computer.

If you believe you have received this message in error, please check with your system administrator.

You can also get online support if you are having problems with Windows Update.
I followed the directions in the trouble shooting guide that told me to go into the network policies under control panel and enabled it. Then I tried again still no go. So I made sure it was still enabled and rebooted still nothing. So I'm drawing a blank here and any help would be appreciated thanks.

I get that error when I try to run Windows Update from work. Our network and PC administrators have a site license and get all the updates from Microsoft. They prefer to handle all the files and we have an SMS system that does automatic updates. The error indicates they put a block on that URL so we don't go off and experiment with using updates that haven't been approved for our "Common Operating Environment"

Are you at work? If so, perhaps your employer has the same policy?

Are you logged on with 'Administrator' privileges? It should have told you that, though. If you're not on somebodies elses network, you should check 'control panel>user accounts' and see what the settings are.
