  1. I'm perfectly happy with my current analog device (DVC 80) when it comes to ripping cartoons because of their simplistic video appearance. (I'm also VERY comfy with the Studio 8 that came with it, I know it very well by now.) But when it comes to ripping my old home movies, I want something better than 352x480 (VCD quality).

I was thinking of just going to the Dazzle DVC 150, which can capture higher at 480x480 (SVCD) and 720x480 (DVD).

My question is, for roughly the same amount of money (or less!), does anyone recommend a different device? Keep in mind, I don't have a dv-camcorder, I rip straight from VHS.

I woud recommend that you stick with your current setup. It sounds like you're doing fine with it and are comfortable. I capture analog footage with my Canopus ADVC-100 which runs about $250 (compared with the Dazzle that's expensive)! But I do editing and that kinda stuff, so I need it. I was gonna suggest buying a capture card, but those might be more expensive and the may only support digital video. I would stick with what you have for now

I tried the Dazzle 80 and found that it did a good job capturing old vhs tapes that my ATI card would not capture. However the videos still showed a bit of interference at the top edge in the overscan area.

I then tried the Dazzle 150 and the captures showed no interference at all.

I also tried the Pinnacle USB Box. It froze on capturing older VHS tapes.

So I ended up with Dazzle 150 and am very happy with it.
