Media Prices

Just figured I'd give everyone an idea of what I pay for media here in northern Japan. These were all at the local store:

Radius DVD-R 5 pack 898 yen
Maxell DVD-R 5 pack 1480 yen
That's (Taiyo Yuden) DVD-R 5 pack 1554 yen
TDK DVD-R 5 pack 1554 yen
Memorex DVD-R 10 pack 1480 yen

100 yen is roughly a dollar.

Actually no, I get paid in $. I'm active duty military stationed here. I don't know much japanese (other than "domo"). My kids actually called some poor guy "Jackie Chan" when we got to the airport here...

I found it interseting that TY DVD's cost the same as the run of the mill Maxells and TDKs...

Maxell can also be Taiyo Yuden, at least i know some Maxells are here in Scandinavia.
What i wonder, when you say "That's", is that the "That's Write" brand? They sell those cheap at the local comp-store here, but i thought its some shitty stuff. Can it really be Taiyo Yuden or are you talking about another brand?

The one I saw just said "That's" and even had "Taiyo Yuden" written on it as well.

That's != That's Write

That's is TY's own brand which hardly is available outside Asia: http://www.thatscd-r.jp/

That's Write is an European brand that uses all kind of manufacturers including crap like Princo: http://www.thatswrite.com/

Ok, got it. I knew Thats Write is using Princo and so on, but had to ask just in case this was something new from them. I didnt know Thats Write was European. Hard to believe anyone would use so retard name here in Europe, it sounds like asian No-Name.
