  1. Certain things I can do on a computer other things get me puzzled and this is one of them.....

    I have downloaded a few avi files now that have been coded with xvid codecs... But when i come to play them the screen starts green and then square blocks appear on the picture and even if i move the avi file to a later time period it just comes up with more squares (NO PICTURE)...

    Now these files are shared by alot of other people so if there was a fault I would have thought they would have deleted it from there file share.
    So I think it is my computer...

    So has anyone else come across this problem b4 and how did you get around it or fix it
    help me please im fed up of downloading these files just to find it dont work... HELP

    Test your file with Gspot and see if you have the codec.

    I have the same problem. The video plays, and the picture shows, but there are alot of colored blocks popping on and off on the video, so bad its unwatchable.
    Like mentioned alot of people have these files so should be nothing wrong with the avi.
    When i open it with Gspot it says that i have the Codec installed.
    all of the problem avi's when opened in Gspot says i have the codec and this should be able to play them >

    "The following codec should be capable of processing this format:

    --> {ffdshow MPEG-4 Video Decoder}

    To get more information by having GSpot instruct the O/S to "play" the file and then examine the results, press the button labeled "Render"."

    and when i hit "render" it says rendering succesfull.

    Any help would be apreciated.

    Try installing the latest Xvid codec. You also need to consider the possibility that your movie might be corrupted. This happens quite a bit when downloading from peer-to-peer services like Kazaa.
