Get this. I login to go online. I have my homepage as MSN.com and I click on Hotmail. I get an unauthorixed proxy request notice due to SEXUAL CONTENT and the page has been blocked. Hotmail is blocked because of PORN? WTF?!!!!!

Anyone else have similar problems with their employer?

I would think if MSN was banned for inappropriate material, you never would have been able to browse to OT!

Where I work they block ALL access to web mail services....
I can get to MSN and Yahoo, et all but not mail due to the possiblity of viral attachements..

Most people do not have a clue when Sec Admin says "do not open attachements" and what do they do?? Open it an infect their pc... or even worse...

Its also possible that they blocked some of the MS scripting. They did this at my work and it caused both hotmail and MSN to be blocked.

Also often if yahoo mail is blocked just use mail.yahoo.co.uk and it usually works.

We're pretty lucky here. We get unlimited web access but certain sites are blocked, but not mail sites. Just the "inappropriate" sites with certain key ascii strings in the URL. Other commonly frequented sites that don't have the string are blocked, but for obvious reasons.

Once I got a nasty e-mail from computer security saying my internet access had been suspended. I wasn't doing anything wrong, but I had Yahoo mail and it generates a random ascii string in the URL. Well ...you guessed it - it generated xxxxfuckxxxxx in the URL a,d that set off all the flags and alarms. They trace all IP traffic and they did a dump of mine and it was clearly not a violation - just an unfortunate roll of the dice. I explained it to my boss, and he was a little irritated at the computer security folks for not analyzing the incident better. He sent them an abrupt e-mail saying "you will turn his internet access back on"

Our policy here is that personal use of the web is OK as long as work gets done and common sense is applied. It's pretty much up to us to decide where that pooint is, as everyone's situation is different. The only time the company gets heavy-handed is when porn or the like is involved. Then it's an instant "red card" They have a zero tolerance policy about porn, since it s a federally funded facility, and taxpayers pay the bills. The lab would get a huge black eye if the local newspapers found out about employees who download porn all day. There have been a few, but they were contract employees, and they were invited to the door, and suggested to never submit their contracts for consideration again

They blocked webmail last time (they can never decide to keep things blocked) because some dumbasses were actually EMAILING PORN to themselves to look at while working WTF IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE!!!!!

They had to unblock yahoo because one of the contacts uses yahoo. Now its blocked again, not sure what the other contact is doing but we figured out the .co.uk workaround so all is good.. Thank you UK!

Also I dont think our IS really keeps up with whats going on... they never got around to blocking gmail when they had a hardon for webmail.

While I'm sure "My work place just went fucked up" was uttered by every employee upon learning of the hiring of Doramius.

Most proxies do block web mail. Count yourself lucky that you don't have "Bess Proxy". Bess blocks everything that contains any language in the tags that might even suggest anything sexual. For example, a girl cannot do a report on breast cancer because "breast" is one of the red flag words. Hell I can't even access my own web page because it says my ISP "offers free webspace". Apparently $22 a month is considered free

I personally think it's a bullshit system made and used by bitchass c*cksucking MFers who I would love to put in a 55 gallon drum with a sick skunk and 3 porcupines and roll them down Mt. Everest. bastards.

By the way Doramius, there is a proxy you can download at www.analogx.com, which will allow you to use your PC as a server and be recognized as such, then you can access the internet through a different port without restriction. But unless you know which ports are unmonitored, it may take a while to figure out which ones you can escape through. But it will go and you will be unmonitored!

    fuckers

    Are they hiring?

If I had to guess, Hotmail was blocked because the letters HOT can ONLY be Pr0n. There's no other reason a site would have HOT in the title. You pervert!!

Hotmail has about as much porn as a Disney WebSite. (no wonder they blocked it)
