    Hi,

I was wondering does the recording start faster than with a average VCR. My VCR is easily 3seconds and much more when it has to calibrate first (insert new tape)

Also is there a noticable diff. when you have a harddisk?

    Morning,

I can't comment on the machines with hard-disks but for my Panny E55 the situation is as follows:

Switch on the machine (No disk in it) or press open and it goes into a "self check" this takes about 3-5 seconds

Put in a DVD RAM, (I author dvd-rs on the PC from the DVD RAM disks), and it takes around 2-3 seconds to recognise it.

IF the disk is new and needs formatting this can take around 45-60 seconds but does not need repeating.

Hit record and there is no more than a one second delay, (at most), before it starts recording. I assume that the incoming signal is going through the internal time base corrector and is buffered before going to hardware encoder and then to the disk which speeds up response time.

basically I normally make sure a DVD RAM is in the drive at most times and have the machine on, (not in stand by),so I can start recording or record then time slip so I can use the machine as a sort of tivo.

    Cheers

    Edz
