  1. Does anyone know how to remove ALL drivers, etc. related to MMC on a windows 2000 machine? I want to start fresh with the card and want all the related shit gone from the system.

    Thanks.

p.s. i'm going to keep looking, and I do find the answer i'll post it here.

ATI has a utility for removing their drivers and software. Go to the driver download page and pick your driver, I think it says utilities or somethoing like that below the driver file. Make sure you delete the ATI folders on your drive, I don't think the utility does. Worked for me...you'll still have some files that are ATI related. To do a comlete removal of all files and all references you'll need to do it manually. Do a google search...... I read how somewhere but it's quite complicated.

Clean install of Windows 2000. That always fixes everything.

By the way I'm not trying to be a smarta$$. I'm just suggesting what I do about every 6-9 months. Backup everything and reinstall XP. It cleans out all the tweaks that may not have worked right and gives you a fresh start. Try it, you'll like the results. Plus the ATI uninstall thing sometimes messes up. (At least it did on MMC 8.6)

I agree with alstatr, I do the same. To make things easier, you can use 2 partitions (logical or physical - drive) and install windows on C: and keep all data and the my documents, my pictures, my music ... on the other partition. No need to backup everything then. Just move your favorites and a few other things.

  6. There is a little free app that I have used in the past to get rid of all types of video and sound driver leftovers. It is called Driver Cleaner 2. Google it and follow the directions.

    You could try this link:

The basics of it worked on my XP machine. Like thecoalman said, it's quite a complicated process.

    just a thought

  8. I really dont want to do a re-format and a re-install (i'm only on month 2 of my usual 6 month cycle) and things are humming along quite nicely. I'll try the few suggestions first and see what works, then if those don't work, its re-format time.

Thanks all for your suggestions and comments.
