you should turn off your caps lock key, is that really necessary?

No it was not necessary. I am at work and the piece of software I use requires it. Was it necessary to write a response to that? Did you not understand my question because of the caps lock?

It's a ripper, shrinker and burner in one, for $80 now. I'd recommend it to noobs, but I'll personally stick with the three separate programs, so I can have fine control over what I want to do with each DVD, to ensure good results on a case by case basis. For those that want to set it and forget it, this looks pretty promising, and $80 is more reasonable. If anyone has tried this, let us know how it turned out, so we can see if it's worth recommending to people. Also, FDC can't remove RCE region protection (as far as I can tell) or UOPs, which MTR 2.0 will be removing.

  9. Personally, I like the idea of having one app that does it all (even though I haven't had any problem using three separate apps to accomplish the same result), but I think most people will take the "if it ain't broke" approach. It's going to be tough to convince people around here to abandon their tried and true method, for something new that will cost them nearly $100 dollars.

If this guy really wants the product to take off, he should offer a fully functional demo with maybe a 10 day trial period.

Those timed trials like that are usually too easily circumvented, by either setting the clock back, and/or using LittleSnitch to prevent it from accessing the internet to get the real date.

  11. Fast DVD Copy looked good to me, one click copying. Meant to be easy peasy, thought I might buy it.
But I think they have a real problem. After scouring through their website it appears they may only support a hand-ful of drives (burners).
I downloaded the demo to use but it doesn't work.
The installation manual says the programme won't load if you don't have a superdrive or compatible burner.
I certainly have an internal dvd burner in my G4, but the programme won't recognise it.
I think the folks at Fast DVD Copy should fix it - then it might be worth $99.99 US
They might make a few more sales too.
I have emailled them - but no response so far!

When 1.0 came out it was discussed A LOT!! [caps needed there]

The stupid forum search isnt working.. or id give you the link

[type in Fast DVD, hit search 0 results, thast crazy! because look at the title of this post........... any way, look to the archives of pg 2 and beyond and you will see it]

its decent, no freedom to do anything but full disk copies, so if your game on those, and one click rip, compress and burn then its the way to go, oh and if you dont mind the price

personally, i like the MTR, DVD2ONE/DVDRemaster, Toast method myself because i can do all sorts of things that cant

To be sure, the 3 step method *DOES* offer a degree of additional flexibility...new to the 2.0 version of Fast DVD Copy is the ability to select what materials to be copied, a compression percentage based on overall selected materials size divided by 4.3GB (or thereabouts) and individual FILE SIZES (which is really nice)!

This is a significant improvement over previous versions. I still prefer the 3 step method for a few reasons such as: 1) multitasking [I can either RIP or burn while compressing without compromising performance...cutting processing time per disc by about 30-40 minutes], 2) DVD compatibility [Toast is much better for burns, although this can also be accomplished by using FDC for the first 2 steps and searching for and copying the VIDEO_TS folder it creates in the invisible system folder after completing step 2...simply go under the "Go" menu in the finder to "Go to folder..." and search for VIDEO_TS to locate it], 3) no 17GB freespace requirement [FDC requires 17GB free], and 4) I just love MTR...it's *AWESOME*. And, of course, there are other reasons to consider the 3-step method, such as $$$PRICE$$$, ect.

There are, however, compelling qualities in FDC's corner. The quality of the resulting DVD (or compressed VIDEO_TS folder) ranges from comparable quality (more typical), to better than either DVD2One or DVD Remaster (in some cases). And I *REALLY* do like the new configuration options in version 2.0. Although DVD2One and DVD Remaster have their pluses, neither can hold a candle to DVD shrink (PC ONLY...which sux) for compression options...FDC closes the gap some small ways, although still leaves something to be desired like DIFFERENT COMPRESSION RATIOS FOR INDIVIDUAL VIDEO FILES (like bonus materials, ect). But, again, although Mac compression compression options leave something to be desired with the notable absence of DVD shrink...Mac's Mac-only MacTheRipper *SERIOUSLY ROCKS*, and now features UOP REMOVAL (for more, see the MTR beta 2 thread). Well, hope that helps some!

    Peace, love, and happiness.
