    Is it ok to store finalized cd/dvd's in cake boxes?

    The only harm that could come to them is if you physically damage the discs when putting them in or taking them out. As long as you are careful you should be ok.

    If your jewelcases are the clear kind and you leave them in the sun, especially with the write side up, they may get damaged. The sun is bad for DVDRs.

    I saw a quote from some industry insider (works in CD manufacturing or something - can't remember offhand) saying burned CDs should be stored vertically. So, where spindles/cakeboxes are ideal for storing CDs horizontally, maybe you should rest them on their side instead.

    I can see the idea though. Imagine burning a hundred CDs and dumping them all on a spindle. Eventually the very bottom CD(s) could be affected by the weight of the top CDs.

    EDIT:

    Of course I also meant DVDs, not just CDs.

    I though it was the opposite. If discs are kept vertically, the dye gets ruined. Probably not that but something along the lines of that.
