  1. I've been using TDK media made by TY but suddenly I bought some TTG01 media and what a surprise!. They are made by CMC!!!!
Are these disc more reliable than other CMC media?.
I guess I'll have to start buying verbatim made by MCC.

Have you noticed that a slight tax increase costs you two hundred dollars and a substantial tax cut saves you thirty cents?

  3. I bought some memorex made by CMC and all I got was coasters!.
These TDKs may be good but I'll never buy them again.
IŽll play the safe way. TY, MCC and RICOH for me.

  4. I have been very happy with my last 50 CMC DVD+R's. I have not had one coaster and all have worked perfectly. As a matter of fact I have had worse luck with riteck than CMC lately.

I have had similar experiences...CMC 4x media has performed admirably for me. I think they may be turning around a bit....

I do get my best results with Maxell and TY...so that's what I use mostly.

  6. I should say then that CMC has an image problem, right?.
It serves them right for having made crappy media.
I'll pay the extra buck for TY and MCC.

  7. I have stopped purchasing TDK ever since I heard of the CMC deal. I have switched to Verbatim. Only the Singapore made Verbatims are MMC, the Taiwan ones are CMC. I don't remember what the Japan ones were, but I remember I was ok with it.

I only purchase the inkjet printables made in Singapore now and so far no problems.
If it works, don't fix it.

  8. Correction: Meant to say say Singapore made Verbatims are MCC not MMC (must have been thinking about Multimedia Center, sorry.

  11. Got my 1st TDK coaster
Burned 100's of TY TDK media and never got a single issue let alone a coaster.
Bought 5 CMC TDK dvd-r's and got a coaster
Can't understand why companies take the trouble to build a good image and suddenly send it all to the sewer

  12. I got 50 last month, and have burned nearly 20 with no problems. But I reset DVDshrink Preferences> Target DVD Size> Custom> 4200, rather than 4464. If I get a coaster, I'll set it even lower. This often works well with dicey media.

  13. That won't have any effect on the compression rate?.
U have to put the same info on less space, so the compression rate will be higher, right?

I can put the 4.3Gb on MCC or TY media with no probs, and I won't change that just for the sake of a brand that failed me!

Yes, certainly. Many here do just that, since it usually helps. Your alternative is to use only the very best media you can find, as you say.

Then again, the difference need not be that significant. You can reauthor main movie only or use DVDStripper, Titleset Blanker, etc. to strip out extras and keep the menu. For movies of average length, the compression isn't all that much. Longer ones can be split to two discs or re-encoded.

That's one of the things that make this hobby interesting, there are so many alternative ways of doing things, so many cool programs to try. So take your pick.

  15. Normally, I only keep menus and several subtitles, so compression isn't that high but what about longevity?
Things can go wrong even with the best media, but at least I'll know it wasn't my fault
