  3. There is one USB mpeg-1/2 audio and video capture device priced at $180. However, there are some limits on the mpeg-2 capture, it can only go up to 352x480. So, it cannot do SVCD. However, it should do VCD just fine. However, for a few bucks more, you can get the Instant DVD that will do full DVD resolution, and it has a better chipset. Also, for less, you can get the PV231 or PV256 PCI cards that can do VCD and full DVD, repectively.
I have heard mixed reviews of the Video Blaster Moviemaker device. I assume Creative is working on a new device by now, so that might be what you're talking about...

  4. I'm not sure if this helps but For the past three months I have been using Creative Video Blaster Movie Maker.

This is an external "gizmo" with USB connection.

Since it enables transfer of analogue video from a VCR to the computer, this has proved to be invaluable for converting analogue video to either mpg1 or mpg2 or V-CD formats, I have been able to produce VCD disks of excellent quality.

The package includes Ulead Video Studio 4 (SE version) for editing and I have found that by creating AVI format work in the Ulead programme and then converting by using TMPGEnc (I discovered that on this site and what a miraculous programme it is!)the VCD production is very pleasing indeed.

Recent exploration into VirtualDub has eanbled me to remove that "nasty" scramble at the bottom of analogue video - and I'm now a very happy man.

In the UK, the Creative Labs Support Team has been remarkably co-operative and helpful and became very involved in my initial difficulties.

For me, certainly, this has been a brilliant solution.

    Best wishes
