I have recently purchased a Philips DVDR 75 and have been transferring some old family videos over to dvd. I copy on a +RW and then burn to +R using Record Now on my computer. The Record Now program has problems reading Memorex +RW's. It will usually read them the first couple of times they are used, but then I get error reports. I bought a five pack of Memorex when I got the recorder, and only one Memorex +RW can still be read. The discs aren't scratched up or anything so I assume it's the media. The Philips RW that came with the unit works fine. Can someone with more experience recommend a brand of +RW that hold up after repeated recordings/erasings?
Or is this a glitch in the Record Now program? (That wouldn't surprise me since nearly every program that came bundled in my HP pc has had bugs.![]()

I gave away a 25 pack of Memorex +RW for the very same reason although dozens of others on the forum love them. I have switched to Verbatim and Fuji and have not had any problems since. I'm sure you will get a ton of opinions on this.
I suppose it could be software related. I would use a straight foward program like DVD Decrypter to test out that theory. Rip an ISO image from one of your DVD's (home or commercial). Load up one of your "bad" Memorex +RW and do a few rewrites / erases / reads with Decrypter. Should answer the RecordNowMax question, and perhaps the Memorex / Philips compatibility question. -
I use Memorex +RW, id INFODISC, with a Philips 985. No problems reading or copying the discs on the PC using Ulead DVD MF.
There is a known issue with dvdecrypter not always copying discs made on a philips recorder in iso mode reliably. Ifo mode works. search www.dvdplusrw.org for the post -
I am the resident Memorex DVD+RW whore, having recorded well over 300 times on a single disc more times than I can count.
And having said that, I'd recommend Verbatim DataLifePlus DVD+RWs in your situation. The Memorex are definitely hit-or-miss. -
I have 100 of these:
Memorex 2.4x +RW, INFODISC

I can vouch for the Ridata/Ritek at Amazon for about $18 per 25. They have worked well for me on a Liteon 812S and they have very low PI/PIF errors (PI average 4 or better). Sorry system there won't upload or I would attach a scan.
Still a few bugs in the system... -

Fuji DVD+RW works well for me. Even better that I got them for $8.00 a box (5 discs, 4x speed) from Office Max when they had their clearance sale.
