  1. Just a couple of simple questions really (which I thought were most appropriate for this forum!):

Can you get a filter for virtualdub (or another such program) that will convert a normal piece of video footage into a fish-eye perspective (like a distorted image, like the bit where Trinity points a gun at the screen in The Matrix)? Or does it actually have to be filmed with a fish-eye lens in the first place?

And whilst it sounds easy to do, I haven't yet figured out how to make a piece of video footage run backwards... how can I simply reverse the order of frames without the need for compression? I can't find a feature to do this in virtualdub.

    Cheers.

  2. Reversing is easy with AVIsynth.

I don't know about the fisheye lens though.

for a fish-eye effect, you'll get better results if you film it with a wide-angle lens in the first place, but you can do it after the fact.

unless they've changed this, in Premiere & AfterEffects you can use Photoshop filters on video, and Photoshop has a fish-eye filter. I want to say that Vegas has one, I'll have to check when I get home.

you might also be able to do this with Wax (freeware), although I haven't tried it - but if you mapped your source material onto a sphere, and then change the parameters on the sphere, that might give you a fish-eye effect.

check for a Virtualdub filter as well - I would think that this would be relatively easy to cook up...

the plugin for vegas to allow use of all photoshop filters should be out in about a week or two.. you can use boris now to do it ..

don't know about a v-dub filter, there just might be one somewhere ..

otherwise you can use digital fusion or shake with saphire plugins .. or xsi also ...

let me see if I get this straight - you'll be able to access Photoshop plugs from Vegas through Wax? Will it still work with Vegas 4? Don't know when I'll have the scratch to update.

sweet! now if only the AfterEffects plugs will be usable too...

Satish is the man - I need to work some more with Wax and get to know it better..
