I am trying to learn the best way to promote my site and i no search engines is one of the top ways. I dont want to just send it to the top search engines though i want to send them to engines dealing in other countries because i want everybody to see it. I no about programs like submit wolf , etc but is there any better ways or other better programs that will get everything i need in one swoop???

Easiest way, have great content. If people find it helpful they will link to you for free

Use an agent program to exploit the search engine algorithms (sp?).
Apart from that, whats also been said are good examples. Remember that if you don't have a large marketing budget you aren't going to be recieving millions of hits straight away, it'll take time to build up the traffic. -

First submit your site to all the major search engines, the biggies have free submission. The rest will find it in time. Submit it to www.dmoz.com, this directory is used by Google and many other sites as a directory, don't hold your breath it can take months to get it in there if at all.
Get and give reciprocal links to sites with content similar to yours. Most important thing is content, content and more content. Did I mention content? Title tags, descriptions, and matching content are important for each page. Don't try and fool the search engines, you'll only end up wishing you didn't.
There's a thousand things you can do.....Depends on how much time you want to spend and who your target audience is. -

i understand about the content but lets be serious if people dont know its out there then they wont go to it or try it.... its like that in the music industry..... its a lot of people better than britany, 50 cents or garth brooks but since nobody know of them they dont sell as many records..... i no about banner swapping and stuff.... also i wanted to know if yall think a pay per click on the search engines is worth it ??????

i think content is the key, "underground" websites become massive overnight because of their content. look at weebl and bob, from obscurity to national fame because of the MTV2 forums.
and as for musicians, decent ones get famous because they get out there and play some music and the people who see them tell their friends the band they saw were good. you have to have a fanbase before you can sell records, something people don;t seem to understand anymore.
What is the topic of the website then? how are people with a similar topic promoting their site? -
My site gets over 100 unique visitors per day which to me isn't bad considering the topic. It has unique content and many sites link to me. It's also because it was built with search engines in mind too. I'm also in in a good position where I don't have a lot of competition, mostly University's and History sites. I have pictures from the anthracite industry that date back to the early 1900's which is great bait. Many people just go to it for the images but out of those thousands of people some of them turn into customers. I had a customer that lived 10 minutes from my base of operations that didn't even know I existed until he found me on the internet.
If it's for a band first you need a good bandMy friend's have one and they are just local but get many hits from all over the place. I think they are past the 1.5 million mark. Here's a great example about them. They have a free mp3's on their site. One them "empire" started getting passed around the internet and beleive it or not was covered by another band in Utah. Free music and videos on your site is a great idea. You can check there site out here http://www.40lbhead.com/ I did the background image on the first page.
Unless you get a lot of high profile links your site is not going to take off immediatley. It has to develope over time. Good links are one of the keys to any site, they drive traffic to your site from other sites and help your site get ranked higher in SERP's.(search engine results page) My friend's band has a lot of local bands linking to them.
Again you need content and have to expose that content in as many places as possible, there are many avenues that are free to do this. Text content is important, if you put the words country music and the town you live in most likley your site will be the first or near first to pop up on Google. Google's pretty smart.
Music industry is tough, Good Luck! -
Coalman, iyou ever want some MP3's of "Blue Coal" commercials, let me know. I've got a lot of those old 30s-50s anthracite ads. Maybe a few others too. Also, some WWII coal conservation radio ads.
I'm pretty sure it's all public domain now.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
