    I used to use this:

    www.htmlgoodies.com

a lot. They have "primers" on java and CGI, though I've not used them.

    just a thought

Buy a book at an outlet store for about $5 ... this is what I sometimes do. Honestly, screw all that looking on google stuff. It's quicker to just find a good book to learn the basics. Use the net for searching specific items.

your local public library probably has a shelf full of books on Java and web authoring. even my local library in the ghetto has 5 or 6 dummies books covering various web topics.

and if they don't, another library in the system probably does, and you can probably get them sent over to your local.

  6. You can save a lot of time and trouble by just using Adobe Pagemaker or Pagemill...or even Microsoft Works or Office to create your pages - you really don't need to have much html knowledge to create a site.

It all depends on what exactly you have in mind for building a site.

Unless you really want to know how to write it yourself and want to do something more original...otherwise it's not all that necessary, IMHO.

You can get basic Java Applets here -
