hi al.
those 2 capture devices perform about the same abilities:
In/out F/W and analoge. Dac-100 is cheaper by 50-100$, so the question is wether it'll be a good decition to buy it or is it really worse than the all-recomanded advc-100.
Thanks.

Well, I don't own either device, but it's worth pointing out that the DAC-100 lacks the audio-lock feature that the Canopus unit has.
If you want to save $100 and still get Canopus-like performance, take a look at the Pyro A/V link unit from ADS Tech, or search this site for threads on this unit.

I have an ADS Pyro A/V Link. It's a good device for capturing from clean sources, has the A/V lock feature (which works), and can capture from component inputs as well as S-Video and composite. Mine works great for recording material from my Tivo. But if you're planning on capturing from VHS tape sources, be aware that it drops frames due to time base problems and does not perform as well as the ADVC-100 does on this task. You need a TBC with the ADS if you want to eliminate dropped frames.
