I have an avi file. I went to watch it in WMP before I began any encoding. I am so glad I did.

    It was all jittery/shaky.

Any ideas why? Can it be fixed?

  2. Never experienced that, could it be a codec problem? Did you try any other player than WMP? Check the file in gspot and see what codec it is using. Hope you stayed clear of codec packs? I would try to encode a little and look at it anyway. Someone must have had a similar problem, so lets hope someone can post a more helpful reply.

Knowing which codec the movie needs is important so use G-spot as suggested and post the 4cc used. That info is in the upper right of G-spot's main display. I'll take a stab though and guess that it's xvid, in which case you should install the latest xvid codec.

yes you are right about xvid. I went to download the latest and got an Error message stating it could not replace the existing file.

Normally you want to use the uninstaller found in Start>Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs. Messing with the windows folder is always a crap shoot as you discovered. If you are still having problems playing your movie, try installing FFDSHOW. Also, we may be giving too much credit to the person that encoded the video. It might actually have the jerkiness in the movie itself.
