  1. Hey everybody,

I have a question which I had asked many times on other forums and no one seemed to respond or answer..I hope someone answer me here

I have ripped a DVD on my hard drive and I wanna add a selectable subtitle to it...I have an external subtitle file I downloaded from one of the subtitles sites....I have "IfoEdit"....my question is how to add a selectable subtitle by only editing the *.IFO file with the "IfoEdit"???

I already know how to convert the *.srt subtitle file to *.sup file but my problem begins when I come to the part of editing the *.IFO file by "IfoEdit", cuz all guides out there are explaining how to create a new IFO file but I wanna only edit the IFO file without ruining other file data NOT creating a new IFO file.....please, someone give me a short explanation...Thanks

Inside your VOBs are m2v (video) and AC3 (or other audio like MP2 and/or LPCM) "files" multiplexed together (thus making a VOB file). If you want subs, the SUP file has to be muxed into the VOB too, so you have to rebuild the VOB by extracting m2v and one or more audio tracks, then remux them together again with the .sup added. You can't add subs by just adjusting the .ifo

In simple steps: Arm yourself with ReJig and IFOEdit.
Using ReJig, select all VOBs and demux m2v and AC3.
Start IFOEdit, select DVD Author -> author new DVD, add the m2v, AC3 (from the ReJig stage) and SUP file (Video, Audio & subpicture resp.). Hit OK. Wait. Done.

Yes, I've only done this for main title (leaving out all menus and extras and stuff). Frankly, I don't know how (if at all/with reasonable effort) you can reauthor the main title while keeping everything else. IfoEdit doesn't do menus, and IfoEdit is what to use when adding .sup subtitles, so it's a little Catch 22...

  9. So, what do you think the solution may be? is there any other tool that adds subtitles without the menus & extras being lost??

Btw, I have another problem that is when I play the outcome movie with the subtitle from the hard drive, the movie plays with multiple lags, while if I do the same thing with he original movie, it plays ok

another thing, do you have any tool for playing DVDs from hard drive to recommend me???

I have no further solution for your initial prob, but I use PowerDVD to play a DVD structure from HDD. It has an option like "Play DVD from folder"
