  1. Hi

I am laerning up on Premiere Pro and am just playing around with effects and what not.

Yesterday I was trying to do that effect that the Queer Eye show does, you know where they freeze on a shot of one of the guys and than the rest of the screen is coloured out and the guy is still the original colours??

the only way I figured out how to do it was to export my frame twice (one for the background(frameB), that will be coloured, and one for the main image(FrameA)), and then in Photoshop, edit FrameA so that ONLY the person is now visible (takes a lot of time to delete all the images around him!!!), and then apply a transparency layer to it.

Back in Premiere, I then add both frames (frameB to layer 1, Frame A to layer 2) and adjust the color of frame b, and voila.

Problem is that it takes a while to edit the image out so I have a CLEAN edit of the person I want to keep uncoloured (takes long to edit the bits where the person and the background meet)

Is there an easier way to do this? Does Premiere have the option to do this all in it's own application?

Thanks, I hope I made sense

When I read the title of your post, this was the first solution to come to me. Having now read your post, I still think you are on the right track. I don't believe premiere will be able to do it any better. Perhaps after effects would, but the approach you have taken is sound.

To make life easier in Photoshop, have a look at 'Extract'. This is a smart masking tool, sort a combination magnetic lasso and quick mask. Should make isolating your focus person much simpler.
