I trying to burn a vcd. I put it in the machine and the audio works fine but i can see the frames passing by. I contacted technical support and they said its very picky you have to have the exact bitrate.. etc ..and to come on this site and look up the settings. Well just my luck your database is down so does anyone know the settings for the Philips DVD711 player? or know where to find them???? Thanks alot!

the philips dvd711 uses the standard vcd bitrate, 1150kbps.
Any compliant vcd will work.
Video:
1150 kbit/sec MPEG-1
352 x 240 pixels
29,97 frames/second
(23,976 frames/second NTSC Film)
Audio:
224 kbit/sec MPEG-1 Layer2

I own a Philips DVD711 and have no trouble playing a standard or non standard VCD and SVCD.

I also have a DVD711 and it plays VCDs and SVCDs great! It's bets if you use Nero to burn VCDs.

I once had a Philips 711. I really liked it. The DVD picture was great...but not for SVCD. When I burned SVCDs I could only get a max bitrate of 2400kbps.

My friend has a Philips 711 and I have a Pioneer 343. We both are active in trading music CDRs and VCDs and I expect that we are receiving them from quite a variety of authoring and burning software. The details of origin are rarely known as they pass from trader to trader.
We often receive VCDs that DO NOT play on his Philips, but DO play on my Pioneer. In our experience, his Philips model is very finicky.
Sometimes running the .DAT files back to MPEG through VCDgear and correcting the sector block sizes to 2324 does the trick. Sometimes the .DAT has an invalid signature and I have to open them in my player software and export as MPEG. Then VCDgear to 2324 block sizes and it plays in the Philips.
But, we have received a few VCDs with files that are somehow corrupted and the only thing I can do is copy the VCD as is -- and play them on my Pioneer.
So for trying to make VCDs which will work on your Philips 711, I suggest trying different combinations of software. I know for a fact that TMPG encoded files will work fine, but using VCDgear and the right burning software will probably be needed for your Philips.

I have never had a (s)vcd that wont play on my DVD711 and I get VCD's from all different places not just ones that i make myself.
