I've had the Pioneer for a few months now, and it's been great so far.
But I think either one is a good choice.

  3. I would go with the Pioneer 107,I had was very disappointed with my NEC2500 and exchanged it for the Pioneer.

  4. Pioneer 107D trust me on this one i have got it, it burns any media, plus with hacked firmware it burns good frimware at 8x

  5. I second (or third or fourth) the thumbs up on the Pioneer. I've only had the A07 (retail version of the 107) a short time but it's been great so far (quiet, fast, no coasters).

Having said that, if I had to buy another drive now, I think I'd be tempted to go with the BenQ 822 since it's DL upgradeable and, purportedly, firmware for the upgrade will be available later this year. Not that it's critical or anything but it would be nice to be prepared if (when?) DL really takes off (as opposed to having to buy another drive).

  6. Unless you want to have to pay BIG $ for media, get the Pioneer. NEC has the worst firmware out there!

  7. yeh,the pioneer107 is the better of the two.
the NEC(Nasty Electronic Company) blows chunks..

    2) If your question has anything to do with copying PS2/PC/XBox games, find a more appropriate website

  12. DJBlade i would advise to stay with the official firmware and just upgrade to the latest one because datsafe are going to produce 8x-r from monday so there is no point in voiding your warranty now. if you dont know datasafe actually use ritek discs and they are the best!

I'm having problems burning any DVD+R disc at 4x, hopefully a firmware update will fix the problem. I haven't tried a slower speed yet, but it shouldn't matter...

Has already Nec-ND2500, very good buy. I would say better buy of those two

Silent, good burning results, fast. Region-free/high-speed ripping firmware exists, haven't upgraded yet. So far, no coasters.

  17. I would go for the nec 2500 , nec 2500 with the official firmware stinks, but with the new hacked firmware, it burns almost every dvd+ media labeled as 4x at 8x, and a lot of dvd- media labled 4x at 6x and 8x,

I am very satisfied with my nec 2500,

oh by the way it now supports bitsetting,

the choice is obvious nec 2500

  18. I love my 2500a. The thing burns whatever I want, and the discs work flawlessly in every player they've been put into. I am by no means a guy that produces thousands of discs, but I would estimate that I've burned somewhere around 120-130 and I have NEVER had a coaster. Not one, so if you're having problems it could be YOU that's to blame, or your computer, and not the actual drive.
IMO the NEC 2500a is an awesome writer, maybe the best one out, and it's incredibly inexpensive as a bonus.

For Cheap media, get the NEC if you use CMC or alot of DVD+R stuff. Ritek tends to be a poor performer on this drive for some people.

The Pioneer has good results with Princo.

Both perform equally well with Taiyo Yuden and Mitsuibishi media.

NEC is known for poor firmware support, but herrie does a great job with his own updates. The stock firmware is just fine though. Burns Taiyo Yuden, MCC, PVC and some DVD+R media at 8x. Herrie's firmware also allows for bit setting with DVD+R.

Both drives have hacked firmware that allow overclocked burning on 4x rated media, region free, and ripping speed increase.
