    Hi there,
Just wondered if anybody knows if you can combine two mpeg files into one, in a split screen effect (like 24 series)?
I'm using virtualDub to clean up some old 8mm cine film and would like to show the two side by side when they are done.

Also I'm struggling with this spot removal filter - if anybody could help with with that I'd be really grateful.

    Thanks in advance

Any video editor that has video overlay tracks can do this. I have used Ulead VS 7 to have as many as 9 separate videos (like the Brady Bunch TV show intro). Since VS7 only has one overlay track, I started with a black image set to the duration of the length of the clips (in my case only 30 seconds or so), then added the first overlay and encoded the file. Then used this new file as the background video and added the second overlay and encoded the file, etc. until I had all nine. Because of all the re-encoding, I used AVI with no compression instead of mpeg. Then when this clip was combined with the rest of the movie clips, it was encoded to mpeg.

After doing all of this, I found a link to this site over on the Pinnacle Studio 8 web board: http://home.t-online.de/home/klaus.horst/hobby/vtoolbox_de.html. The web site is in German (I think), but the program has an English option. I originally downloaded the program for the reverse video feature, but also found that it allows multiple overlay tracks. Nice little program and you can't beat the price (free).

  3. Check into AVIsynth. The command you are looking for is StackVertical or StackHorizontal.
