I`m planing to buy one of those 2 cards to play back DivX movies on my TV. I read Sefys guide on tv-out, but I'm not sure if its up to date and if the G550 was out when he wrote the guide. So I would like to know if someone could tell me if the G400 is still the best tv-out card out there, or if I should go and get the G550 instead.

I had a G400 for the longest time, and I loved it for TV out. It's very easy to hook up and configure, and one of the best features is that you can set it to send only digital video to the TV instead of cloning the entire desktop. For example, if you have a movie running in a quicktime window on your desktop, the card will scale the video to take up the entire TV screen, while leaving your desktop intact. It's an awesome card for video editing and viewing, especially when you use the dual-head expanded desktop. The *only* reason I switched out was for gaming purposes - the 3D is pretty mediocre. But for 2D apps, it rocks out.
ALso, I would shy away from Matrox models ending in 50's - those are the cheapy frill-free, buy-em-in-bulk-for-a-song business models. Go for the nice round hundreds.

Out of curiasity, what TV-Out Guide ? I never wrote any Guide on the Matrox, or any TV-Out cards, all I did was the DVD Guides.
