I have recently purchased a Sony DRU 530ul external firewire 8x DVD-+RW drive which I recently updated to the latest official firmware from sony Version 2.0a
I do not have any real 8x media yet but since I've read that certain +r 4x media would burn at 8x, I went ahead and bought a pack of memorex +r/4x media. Burns perfectly at 4x with 4x media and most 1x will burn at 2x. If I was to order some of Ritek's new 8x media, would I expect the 8x speed choice to be made available? I burn with the latest upded Nero version 6.3.1.6 which at least for me and my setup has worked perfectly well for all my projects.

Has anyone beed able to sqeeze 8x out of this 8x drive with any particular brand and atype of media type, or is there a different firware, hacked or not I should be using?

Any help would really be appreciated

    Thanks

Plextor 708A burns 4x +R media at 8x. Wait for answer for Sony 530.

  3. My Benq 800a and LiteOn 811S both burn Memorex 4x discs at 8x. I don't think your model Sony will do so.

  4. Your Sony is a Optorite DD0401. As far as I know, there hasn't been much (if any?) work done on hacking Optorite burners other than RPC2 removal. So you're out of luck (someone correct me if I'm wrong about there not being any write speed hacking for the OR burners).

So I guess I have to wait for good "real" 8x media to be avilable. If I did have real 8x media would it then write to the supposed rated speed? I'll take a look around the net.

Ok I just saw Ritek 8x but my drive will only burn it at 4x according to the compatability chart.

    That really sucks!

Thanks for the link to the topic but I already flashed to 2.0A. If they are refering to a newer upgrade I missed it while reading the postings on the link.

    Thanks

Yes, the only hacks available for it at the moment are region hacks... but, you could always go to the firmware request page and see if someone in that forum might be able to help you out. When it comes to firmware things, forum.rpc1.org is probably by far the best place to look/ask.
