  1. I have been reading my butt off on this forum and have learned quite a bit and confused myself equally. however, my question is how exactly does the recording work on these stand alone dvr's? i know you can one touch record, thats easy. when you schedule a show to record when your not at home, do you have to leave the correct channel pulled up on the satellite or cable box? or does the unit have everything go through it and you can change channeld throught he dvr. any information you can provide would be helpful. thanks.

Not trying to knock this website at all (which I love) but for information on stand alone DVD recorders you might be better off checking the AVS FORUM website. They have a forum dedicated to stand alone DVD recorders with a lot of activity.

  3. You can do to thing's one set the time on your Sat box or cable box. Let's say you want to record some thing on SCIFI channel at 8PM to 9PM you set the time on the sat box to change the channel to SCIFI set timer to 7:57 to 9:03PM then set you Pioneer 510 7:57PM to 9:03PM leave your box on another chennel any other channel FOXNEWS CARTOONNETWORK. Reason I like to do this if at 7:50 your box freeze's you are in trouble some freeze's can last a long time change the channel will fix it then go back to that channel. Pioneer 510 might have some problem if you turn of the box. SO test it your self to see. I think the problem was with Dishnetwork still send a small signal out when the box is turned off. You can just leave the box on that channel and set the timer on the 510 but like I said before if the box freeze's you do not know how long for it to come back.

  4. so for satellite you configure it to change the channel. as for cable boxes, you basically have to leave it on the channel you want to record.

  5. "holcomb76" your better of leaving it on another station and set the timer to change to the channel you want to record. If you leave it on SCIFI and you want to record Star Gate and at 7:50 the mpeg 2 stream goes bad and you get a lock up. The only way to fix it is to turn to another station or shut it off. So set to a station you do not want to record and set the time to the station you do want to record.
